Just curious..what did you guys send in for the Writing Sample? Mine's an essay on Candide for English class.

I had sent a 4 page long General Paper Graded Essay....don't exactly remember the question for the essay but it was something to do with computers...

i sent in an essay on august wilson's fences that i wrote for my ap english class.

I'm sending my ap psychology paper.

I'm sending a literary criticism on Virginia Woolf's To the Lighthouse. I'll probably never write another paper so well again. To think, I've hit my peak at seventeen...

nothing i've written seems good enough. i have a bad habit of writing papers the night before and getting A's on things that suck.

I'm sending an AP Eng Lit paper on A Room with a View. Fabulous book, so-so paper, but I don't really like any of my papers except for my history and english term papers, which are way too long to send!

I believe its possible to send in part of an essay- if you think your work is better on one of your longer pieces. Maybe someone else can confirm.

btlesgrl -- I remember someone asking the admissions woman if they could send a ten-page AP US paper when Vassar came to my high school, and she said that it was alright to just send several pages of it (preferably the strongest written section). Just note that in your app somewhere and it should be fine.

Is there any form the paper must be in? Like, is it ok if it's single spaced with 11 point font and 1 inch margins? I wanted to turn in my extended essay which with everything standard including double spacing, it's 13 pages and I think every page is just as good as another. It's my IB Extended Essay so I'm so prowd of it and if I do edit it to specifications I previously mentioned, it's only 5 pages. So is there any specifications anywhere that I'm missing?

condry - I think they want a photocopy of the original essay with the teacher's comments and grade, so I don't see how you are going to edit it and keep the comments and such

I was just going to regive it to my teacher to put the same comments on. He said he would do it.

I'm using an in class timed writing that was my 9 weeks exam in English.

Mine's over the page limit, but it's only six pages and a works cited, so I'm going to just wing it. I think 11 might be pushing it a bit, though.

I sent an in-class practice essay for AP Literature and Composition comparing Death of a Salesman to Raisin in the Sun. It was ok, but I remember liking it when I wrote it, so that's what I sent.

I'm sending in an AP English paper about Hamlet. There weren't many comments on it, so I got my teacher to add more.

Just out of curiosity, how closely do you think they will look at the papers? Do you think they actually read the whole thing?

I'm wondering about that too. The theory and analysis from my paper is great, IMO, but the writing isn't all that spectacular. The comments are good though. I'm hoping the adcoms can see my writing through my essays instead of the writing sample...I didn't have much choice because my English teacher basically never gives writing assignments.

i'm sending a 10 page paper analyzing three of faulkner's books with themes of the enlightenment. it's the best paper i've ever written, and if admissions wants to stop at 4 pages, thats fine with me

btw...what if they don't get my handwriting???....
