VCCS Transfer Agreement ?'s

I have a few questions concerning the articulation agreement with UVA and the VCCS.

I started off in Chester, Virginia at John Tyler Community College, where I’ve earned 49 of the 63 credits needed for the associated degree. I was on track with the counselors at Tyler for the UVA agreement, that is, they’d help with advice on which classes would transfer, and in return I’d maintain the required gpa.

The counselor at Tyler told me only two semesters of a foreign language would be required for the articulation agreement. Since Tyler didn’t offer the foreign language I wanted to take I decided to transfer to Piedmont Virginia Community College, which would also make the transition to UVA an easier one.

I now know UVA wants not only two, but four semester’s worth of foreign language. At the end of the spring 2009 semester I’ll have enough credits for the associates, but will be short the 201 and 202 classes.

Will UVA still allow me to come in under the agreement? I’d hate to have to take the 201 class fall 2009, and the 202 one in spring 2010, then transfer to UVA in fall 2010. Taking just two classes over the span of a year would be quite depressing.

Another question: I’m an English major, and was wondering if it’s possible to transfer in, with the VCCS agreement, to the BA/MA program? The English department’s website says that you need a 3.6 gpa in the major, which I have, but it also says the GRE is required – when should I take this? Do you apply, take graduate courses along with your undergrad ones, then after a semester or two take the GRE and submit the scores?

Thanks for your time

mullins, I would call the transfer office and ask them. Or send them an e-mail. It's better to get information from the source than be misinformed by others, especially when your question is a unique one that pertains to your specific case. Along the same lines, send your english ba/ma question to the appropriate office.

(434) 982-3200 is the transfer office number. (434) 924-6633 is the administrator of grad admissions office; questions relating to the ba/ma program are directed there. Good luck.

You won't come in under the agreement, but if you fall short in one of the categories, you will probably still be competitive in the admission process.

DB is right that you will need to work with the English department when it comes to the BA/MA. The Office of Admission will admit you to the College of Arts & Sciences and the department will take care of things from there.

You all were up late last night!

you could also probably take 201/202 over the summer to avoid having to fit it in at UVA.
