VCU Honors College - how tough to get in?

My D has been accepted to VCUarts '22, but hasn’t heard back from the Honors College yet (a separate app). Does anyone know how competitive it is to get in, assuming an applicant has met the HC requirements? I can’t find admission stats anywhere and they say they don’t have them. Any idea when she might be informed?

They send a letter in the mail.

not sure about when/if you’ll hear about honors but I can tell you the real competition takes place for majors. ALL freshman are admitted to the foundation program and then based on the quality of work produced throughout freshman year, students first apply for major. Things like Graphic Design are very competitive . While it doesn’t hurt to be in “honors” it has little if any bearing on the major decisions.

What do you know about the Communications Design major that combines illustration, graphic design and writing? My daughter is leaning Graphic Design, but is also a studio artist, so adding illustration is interesting to her as well.
btw., stones3, I have appreciated your insight on VCUarts on CC! We visited many of the top art and design programs from East to West and she loved VCUarts most.

DCLFAN - glad to be of any help. I don’t know much about Comm Design other than it tends to be the fall back for those that didn’t get GD . I can tell you that foundation year will expose her to many aspects of design and you might be surprised what she decides to apply for. Our d really got a lot from the photography portion and almost changed to that major but ultimately stayed with GD. As I have stated many times, for our d VCUARTS has been a really good fit.
Good luck if you have any other questions feel free to pm me.

FYI- my daughter also got accepted into VCU Arts. She got her Honors College acceptance information in the mail yesterday. I would like to add that yes, the Honors program doesn’t make a difference when Arts foundations is concerned, however it does open up more scholarship opportunities for the student. Students accepted into the Honors college can apply for scholarships that non-honors students cannot apply for. That’s a big deal for us since we are OOS.

My D received her letter of admission today.

Anyone know much about the honors scholarships that are due by March 1st? We are curious what the amounts are if you get selected.
