Hello, my friend has a dilemma, she has a partial scholarship to VCU for track, although she really doesn’t like track that much. She wants study marketing or health science in college, she knows that VCU has a great program, but doesn’t really like the campus or location. She’ll get in state tuition at NC State, and likes the campus and location better. Howard is also an option, and she can get an offer to run there as well. Advice please !
She should go to NC state. Great school, affordable, has the majors she wants, nice campus and location for internships.
One thing to think about it: If she is dependent on a track scholarship to attend college, what happens if she gets injured or no longer wants to do this sport? With NC state she does not have that worry.
If she doesn’t like track that much, why would she go to college on a track scholarship? That’s going to require her to run to maintain the scholarship, even if she later decides she’d rather do something else. Is VCU significantly cheaper than NCSU with the track scholarship or something?
Same thing with Howard. I went to an HBCU and the HBCU experience is really amazing. But if she’d have to run track to afford to go there and she doesn’t like track…then she shouldn’t go there.
It sounds like she likes NCSU and she wouldn’t be tethered to an activity she doesn’t enjoy.
NCSU sounds like the obvious choice to me. No need for her to continue with something she’s not really interested in just for the sake of maintaining a scholarship. She’s lucky enough to qualify for in-state grants at the very highly esteemed and respected UNC system. I highly suggest that she takes that offer.
