I've checked the prof ratings for both...but has anyone on CC actually taken one of their classes???

Where did you check professor ratings? University of Chicago professor evaluations can only be accessed by University of Chicago students. Other ratings will be inaccurate.

I have not taken a course by either professor.

I took Prof. Sinaiko's Human Being and Citizen course this year.

He's a brilliant professor whose love of great texts is infectious, so much so that I now want my major to revolve around reading the Great Books. It's wonderful to analyze texts under him in such a precise manner that we easily spent the entire class on only a page or two; and never expect to discuss the entire book during the few weeks the course has been allotted to it -- but that is the beauty of it. It's quite easy for him to talk for the entire hour and twenty minutes without letting students give more than a few comments, something which I rather loved, as Sinaiko has read the texts countless times, has analyzed them, and is extremely knowledgeable about them. Also, I have met with Sinaiko outside class concerning possible majors for me, and he always has been very helpful and kind, going far out of his way to offer advise and point me in the right direction.

Sinaiko is a legend, and I am so fortunate to have taken his humanities course.

Check out this article for a look at his class: http://magazine.uchicago.edu/0612/investigations/coursework.shtml
