I am a vegan and I was just admitted to Tulane. I love the school, but I am worried about finding vegan options on campus. How is the vegan food at Tulane? Are there any health food stores within walking distance of Tulane? Any information would be very helpful :)

There have been a few discussions about this already. Go to the main Tulane page, use “search the forum”, and type in vegan. I also seem to remember they did a fairly major renovation to Bruff for this fall that included some additional options.

Tulane14 seems very well informed on this topic so hopefully she will weigh in.

thanks, I am still getting used to the site, I’ll look at the previous threads!

Hey there! I was vegan before I came to Tulane, but decided to eat as a vegetarian when I’m here and eat mostly vegan during the breaks.

Eating here as a vegan is going to be very very hard, as it’s going to be at almost every university. Unless you’re okay with eating mostly salads, you’re going to have some trouble here. Vegetarian, on the other hand, is completely do-able. In addition to the usual soup/salad/sandwich options, pasta and many vegetarian entrees are offered on a daily basis.

Whole foods is within walking distance so you could always go and buy extra food there. I guess it just depends on how set you are on staying a vegan in college.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any more questions :)

We actually have a vegetarian/vegan club (run by vegans), and we have been meeting with Bruff chefs most of this semester. They are going to be offering more vegan options next semester. I’ll post again if I hear any updates.
There are a lot more vegetarians, including myself, who don’t find eating vegetarian to be too hard at Tulane. I know several vegans at Tulane, and they are doing just fine! I don’t think it’s too much of a problem. It might be a little harder, but definitely doable.
