vegetarians ONLY

No debate. Why not dairy?

"just wondering, but do vegetarians eat fungi?"

If some don't, I have yet to meet one.

Lealdragon, I live in NYC. Trust me, I use the "F" word everyday. In fact, Im willing to go out on a ledge here and say that I say the "F" word at least 50 times per day in a normal conversation.

However, this occurs in conversations with my friends and parents. This does NOT occur in conversations with people I barely know, teachers, other adults I dont know, and certainly NOT in a public forum.

And you were making dinner at 1011 pm?? Thats a late dinner. I usually eat around 5 or 6ish.

You're an interesting kid shastarasta. This above post really does nothing for your argument, and the dinner time insult is incredibly weak, but you do have a comic way with your words, which entertains me.

And I like that your name has "rasta" in it.

But other than that....I'm quite tired of your posts.

That wasnt an insult. How could I insult anyone about what time they were having dinner?????

I was just saying that I dont go around saying F in a public forum.

Dont grow tired of my posts. Ive really cleaned up my act in the last 5 days or so.

considering that mushrooms are fungi, i'd be willing to bet that the majority of the population eat fungi...

Mushrooms and the like? Why not? It isn't a dead animal. (Not a vegetarian, though)

shastra, this is my last response to you on this debate.

Look, please understand that you insulted both me and Zyklon. Whereas everyone else is having a civil discussion, you have singled us out and taken it upon yourself to judge: 1. my parenting decisions 2. Zyklon's ability to make his own decisions 3. Zyklon's choice of language 4. our dinner schedule (which you know NOTHING about - you know NOTHING about what time we get home from work etc. 5. My opinions about other issues which have nothing to do with the vegetarian thread.

In other words, you struck first. Then you backpedaled and said no offense intended, yet you continued to insult. Quite simply, YOU attacked. Honestly, can you blame either of us for being a bit annoyed?

As a parent, I consider criticizing someone else's choices to be far more offensive than saying a silly word that is used everyday in casual conversation. This isn't the 1950's or even the 1980's. A teenager offended by the 'F' word? C'mon. Effin' get real here. Even I use the effin' F word everyday. It's really no big deal. It just adds some effin' emphasis. ;-)

As I said, FAR more offensive is butting in to a thread that was intended for vegetarians, then criticizing them.

Effing truth. XD

Aight...now that that's settled...let's get this thread back on track, shall we? =]

Subject: Veg fast food. As in, what do you guys eat when you're on the go and don't have time to make something?

I'll start us off: Quizno's makes a mean veggie/avocado/cheese melt sub. Friggin' awesome, actually. And my boss at work owns a Quizno's franchise on the side, so I pretty much get free food whenever I go there. Can't beat that. =P

Chipotle is the best ever. I usually have a rice/black bean/corn, tomato, and green chili salsa/guacamole burrito.

I usually just end up with subway or taco bell.
I really hate eating fast food though.

CHIPOTLE IS AMAZING.
I also REALLY like Noodles & Co.

On the topic of sandwiches...my favorite sandwich (behind Bacon-lettuce-tomato since I'm not actually vegetarian :)) is wheat bread with a Boca burger, a couple avocado slices, spread with hummus and some ketchup. I like the combination of avocado, hummus, and ketchup on anything--plain on a pita or tortilla is great too.

Pita pizzas are delicious...spread a spoonful of pesto on a pita, sprinkle on some cheese, spinach, and salt/pepper, broil, and yay :)

I also love baking...it's actually really really easy to bake vegan. I made some peanut butter cookies the other day and didn't even realize they were vegan till I finished. I always bake with margarine/butter spread since it makes chewy cookies stay soft and I used soymilk for a nuttier flavor...turned out great and I didn't miss the dairy. That reminds me, I have some cake to make...definitely not vegan though, I could never give up chocolate :)

Most dark chocolate is vegan, actually... to me that's the only kind that counts (it's near-impossible to have spent the better part of your childhood living in Brussels and not be a chocolate snob).

Dark IS the best, I had no idea it was vegan...this is great news :) No wonder it's healthier too (as healthy as chocolate can be :))

That also means I can buy some chocolate for my vegan teacher...every Christmas he gets mixed chocolate boxes from well-meaning students and he has to give it all away (not that we complain...) I should get some all-dark assortment for him...

Make sure to check the ingredients list, though, just in case. I think some lower-end manufacturers do use milk products in their "dark" chocolate because it's cheap and can be used to "dilute" the actual chocolate... I'm not sure, though. Most of it is definitely vegan.
