tofu fried tastes very yummy.
I have to eat peanut butter and nuts every day to keep healthy. Soy milk is also yummy. Especially chocolate
There are many choices that are very healthy and delicious. You just have to look. =]

Yeah, I personally love hummus and pita bread, or hummus with anything for that matter. Itās a good source of protein too.

I am vegan, I do not eat any animal products and do my best to avoid them in everyday life.

haha at racinreaver,

when i was twelve, i wanted to be a vegetarian, and i was for like three weeks. but i love meat right now. honestly, i donāt think a meal is complete without it, but thats just me. =]

Even though Iām not a vegetarian I donāt like meat and my mother freaks out because a lot of people in my family are anemic. (I feel so bad when I give up meat for Lent because itās so easy! I should give up something I like). So sheās always looking for ways for me to get iron. And sheās really into protein too.
So I eat tofu. I like it best in soups because thatās how I really had it at my (Chinese) friendās house. Sometimes I batter it and fry it and thatās okay. But it tastes like egg whites and the truth is I donāt really like egg whites, so I get tired of it if I have it every day like I was doing for a while.
I also eat SO many nuts. I eat almonds everyday. More than I should, because they are very fatty. But theyāre delicious.

I never really think āOMG youāre a vegetarianā because since my closest friend has been one since Iāve known her (she ate meat once or twice as a toddler but decided she didnāt like it) it never seemed like a big deal to me. I still donāt get why people treat it as a political stance or a lifestyle or anything bigger than what it is. So you donāt eat meat, I really couldnāt careless about your dietary habits.

its hard to get all our necessary nutrients b/c some vegetarians like my family rely heavily on carbs to fill ourselves. its a good idea to take a multivitamin every few days or week. i do.

i also suggest you get like a steamer and stock up on canned stuff. its fun to make up your own dishes so after you feel comfortable cooking, start making up your own stuff.

and Eriatarka, so what if its hypocriticalā¦where else do we get energy from?

I guess I could if I tried hard enough, but honestly, Iād pass out if I didnāt get the energy meat provides.

Sure there are nuts and stuff out there. But seriously. Nuts. Thatās just soā¦ inadequate lol.

Iāve been vegetarian for my whole life and I definitely commend your initiative =)

I have been a vegetarian for nearly 5 years now. I can answer any questions too.

I know the ins and outs of the health aspects too because my aunt is a vegetarian nutritionist/gasteronterologist (sp? sheās a stomach doc) and lectures me all the time on how Iām not eating right and what itās doing to meā¦

ive been a vegetarian, more specifically a pescatarian, for about 3 months now, and i love it! i actually lost 5 lbs since i started and found that morning star veggie burgers are really good, i hate boca soy burgers, they are disgusting! and soy chorizo is super yummy! you need complete proteins which come from a combination of whole grain rice and black beans[which also contain iron] i went vegan for about a week and got really ill, so itās good youre easing into it. i do it because pigs are as intelligent if not smarter than dogs, and i wouldnt eat my dog, and cows are so gentle and are kept in horrible conditions as are chickens. fish have pretty tiny brains(i know someone will complain about this) thats why im okay eating them for now, but eventually i plan on going full on vegetarian

my mom has been a vegetarian for all her life so she has to take vitamin pills and what not but rest of my family enjoys meat. you are not really doing anything by not eating a animal thats already dead. and trust me there are lot of fat people out there that will be happy to take your meat. if you feel you are actually doing something then you may do that but in reality meat production and consumption has been steadily increasing over the years

cheers

jpl, just because I donāt help slow down the production of meat doesnāt mean I have to contribute to the problem.

If enough people become vegetarian, demand goes down. If demand goes down, production goes down. Nobody wants to pay to grow a cow that doesnāt get bought.

People are going to eat the meat they want to eat. Trust me, the guy down the block is not going to eat another steak simply because I didnāt buy one.

And duh, meat consumption and production has increased over the years. Populations increase, therefore ALL food production increases.

Seriously, do you THINK about what you are saying? Or do you just use tired talking points?

āIf enough people become vegetarian, demand goes down. If demand goes down, production goes down. Nobody wants to pay to grow a cow that doesnāt get bought.ā

there are many problems with your first argument
first āif enough peopleā well what if the world ends tomorrow?
second you talk about people and then in rest of your post you say āPopulations increaseā.

then you make a statement ātherefore ALL food production increasesā
hahah buddy even though population has effect on the meat production it does not govern how much is produced. Also just because demand goes down it does not mean production will go down. you obviously have not taking economics am i right?

you also state that you are helping to not contribute to the problem
what problem? if you believe natural cycle of life is a problem then i guess you want every omnivore and carnivore to die?

after all humans are animals

you also say āTrust me, the guy down the block is not going to eat another steak simply because I didnāt buy one.ā
it does not matter if you buy one or not. they will already produce a set amount and they will be bought. does it matter who buys it?

and to finish "Seriously, do you THINK about what you are saying? Or do you just use tired talking points? "

hahahahahah stay safe kid

I eat meat. Iām not a vegetarian, I donāt really care if others are, really.

I just wanted to throw it out there that research and data proves that consuming meat consumption has been proven to cause transmission of viruses from animals to humans, such as E. coli and most recently the swine flu. About one-third to one-half of all chickens marketed in the U.S. are contaminated with salmonella. Also being vegetarian has been proven to increase life-expectancy, lower body mass index, lower levels of cholesterol, lower blood pressure, and lessen the incidence of heart disease, hypertension, type 2 diabetes, renal disease, osteoporosis, dementias such as Alzheimerās Disease and other disorders. This is not opinion it is FACT. Thereās more to being a vegetarian besides helping the environment and making sure that animals can have a chance at life.

Hereās a quote from a great scientist on this subject.

Iām a vegetarian, donāt like it at all

Well the opposite of meat can also be said. There are innumerable health benefits of eating meat, to say, for example, it serves as a fabulous source of high quality proteins, which a single vegetarian food is not able to provide. It contains all the essential amino acids that the body requires.

The red meat contains very high quantities of iron, when compared with plant origin foods. 100 grams of Liver contains 6000 mcgm of iron as against 325 mcgm in 100-gram carrots. Read further to explore information about the advantages of eating meatā¦

The phosphorus content present in meat gets much more easily absorbed than that present in cereals and legumes. This is owing to the fact that cereals and legumes contain phosphorus, usually in the form of phytic acid that must be hydrolyzed before absorption. Meat also serves as the main source for the intake of vitamin B12.

Now i could go on forever but I am sure you can research it yourself. Now lets compare the chances of a disease transferring to someone than the chances of getting all these proteins. Many of the diseases get killed when the meat is correctly prepared and packed. Then if there are any harmful things reaming they cannot survive 450 degrees in the oven. While on the other side you have 100% of getting these nutritions from respective meats.

I would also like to point out that N1H1 2009 which you and the media refer to as āswime fluā has absolutely nothing to do with pigs or their meat.

Please read up more before you post.

Iāve been a veg since birth, havenāt ever eaten meat and nor has any family member. =)

Frankly I find the whole concept of eating meat myself disgusting (Itās a dead carcass for godās sake) but I donāt mind if other people eat it, iām not one of those psycho vegetarians.

jpl Iāve done my research. Apparently you havenāt done yours. I donāt know how you can state that the H1N1 virus has nothing to due with pigs when the strain of the virus was found in pigs. Thatās a huge reason why Egypt ordered the killings of all the pigs in their country (even though I donāt agree with what they did).

I love how some non-vegetarians seem to think that meat is the only source of protein this world offers. Harvard and Loma Linda University researchers have established that not only do vegetarian and vegan diets meet recommended intakes of protein but they EXCEED them.

These red meats that you talk about might give you protein but thatās not the only thing they provide theyāre proven to higher cholesterol, increase risk of heart disease and hypertension. But probably the worst thing red meats do is higher the risk of cancer. You donāt have to take my word for it:

jpl, I was going to systematically refute all of your points, but instead I am not going to waste my time. All I can say is- grow up. I never asked you to become a vegetarian and couldnāt care less if you were or not. Donāt pull crap out of your *** in order to make it seem like you know what you are talking about, you donāt.
