haha most people i know who are vegetarians do it to lose weight (STUPID STUPID STUPID and detrimental to health unless done VERY well… but people who would do this well are more likely to lose weight by EATING BALANCED MEALS AND EXERCISING, you know, the old fashioned way) and/or have a holier-than-thou attitude about it (oooh, you’re cool; you’re so much better than other animals because you’re removing yourself from the FOOD CHAIN!)

that said, i’m sure there are people out there with legitimate reasons and i admire standing up for a cause and blah blah blah

As study just came out saying cow burps were the leading cause of greenhouse gas emissions in america. if you don’t eat meat you are contributing to the destruction of our ozone.

Does anybody know anything that contains as many essential amino acids in one portion?
My friend is a vegitarian and I’m trying to put him on a different diet because he is way too thin, and is lacking alot of essentian aa. He doesn’t eat much either so it’s better if its all in one portion.

I am not a vegetarian even though the rest of my family is. But, I don’t eat that much since at home my parents don’t cook it. I’ll only eat meat if we are at a restaurant, and that’s only sometimes. It’s too hard to pass up on bacon, hamburgers, and sausage!

■■■■■, I have a friend in college who’s trying to the exact opposite. He’s been waiting since like high school and his teenage years (where he would break out every time he ate precarious amounts of meat) to become what he calls a “Meativore.” He’s trying to eat only meat and basic carbs (wheat products) without ingesting any vegetables or fruits.
I personally think he’s an idiot for attempting such a thing, but I’m also worried about the adverse side effects caused by all that oil, fat, extraneous protein? =(

I would recommend soy beans, soy products, peanut butter, eggs/cheese (if he eats it). Tell him to take a bit of whey protein or flaxseed with his meal.

I’m a vegetarian… I used to be vegan, but I stopped because I was losing weight that I really had no business losing.

Anyways, I’d just like to state my justification for my being a vegetarian. I don’t really do it for the animals… no offense to those who feel particularly attached to animals. Anyways, I eat vegetarian because of the unnecessary energy and wasteful practices associated with producing meat. If anyone is interested, the book Diet for a Small Planet is really eye-opening and well-researched. It talks about the problems with eating meat produced from grain-fed animals.

One of the most startling things that I learned is that it takes 16 pounds of grain to produce one pound of beef. Many people think that world hunger exists due to a lack of food in the world, when, in reality, we have the capability to comfortably feed double the world’s population (feeding humans with grain, instead of cows and other animals.) Of course, finding a way to stop our reliance on grain-fed animals and then to redistribute this grain is problematic, but hey, becoming a vegetarian is a start.

I’m not trying to say that I’m better than anyone because I’m a vegetarian or anything; I’m simply stating that some of us do it more for the environment and other humans, rather than for the animals.

Oh, and to whoever said this: “As study just came out saying cow burps were the leading cause of greenhouse gas emissions in america. if you don’t eat meat you are contributing to the destruction of our ozone.”

Cows are mass/overproduced to feed America’s voracious appetite for beef… Saying that vegetarians cause the destruction of our ozone contradicts the idea of supply and demand. Cows’ flatulence has such an effect on our ozone because meat is such a common staple in American’s diets. There’s not a natural abundance of cows roaming around the United States. As I said before, they are overproduced because of America’s desire for meat (and dairy products, too… which gives some support to the vegan argument, but I won’t go there.)
