I didn't work my butt off that badly in high school, and I'm still the man. I watch lots of basketball games and yell really loudly. I don't have lots of extracurriculars and the ones I do have I only do because I like (e.g. coaching middle school basketball). YEAH COLLEGE!!!

I think overachievers have just as much reason to worry as the rest of us. I mean, they still have feelings and everything, and nobody is perfect. Everyone makes mistakes, and private universities are hard to get into, no matter what. I mean..imagine if all the #1 ranked people in the US applied to Harvard. Can't they only extend acceptances to like 2,000 people? And there are definitely more than 2,000 high schools in the country. Even Valedictorians and such aren't guaranteed in everywhere.

The only overachievers who annoy me are those who get in ED or EA to their dream school, are going there for sure, and refuse to pull their applications to other colleges. Then they're just taking spots that they're not going to use.

But overachievers in general..everyone has a reason to worry, to stress, to complain. They have a legitimate reason, so don't hate them. Sure, maybe you can't sympathize with them, but everyone fears not achieving their dreams.

I agree. My stats are quite good, but when you compare them to some of the people on this board, it makes me nervous. A lot of us "overachievers" have worked a ton over the last 4 years and are worried that our work will all be for naught. I know that I'll be going to a good school wherever I choose to enroll, but not getting into my dream school would be disappointing.

As for those that don't pull their applications, I'm with you as well. The valedictorian at our school got accepted EA to Harvard, yet is still applying RD to Yale, Princeton and others. I know people say that schools aren't supposed to restrict the amount of students they accept from one HS, but I don't buy it for a minute. I'm actually not applying to any of the schools she is ED, but it'll tick me off if she hurts the chances of some of our other students that aren't in yet.
