I am on work study. So, I have to find a job.

Thing is though, NO EMPLOYER WANTS ME.

I have applied since the beginning of the year for:

Desk Attendant
Bookstore employee
dining commons
environmental office in ucen
housing maintenance
Best Buy
Sports Authority
Staples
The Daily Nexus for photographer position

and four more other jobs. . .

I only landed two interviews, and I eventually got rejected from both.

WHAT THE EFF is wrong with the economy? Is it that nobody wants me? Or they are prejudicing against certain people? Or is the economy really that dire, or I am making a mistake in each of the countless applications I emailed and mailed in?

Because I raged and got enraged over this thought and having to see the work study grants turn into loans numerous times, I am just angry no more.

EFF THE ECONOMY AND THE SUPPOSED RECOVERY. THINGS ARE NOT GETTING BETTER AT ALL.

Not having job shouldn't be too bad, but being on work study, having no employer wanting to employ you, and the thought of seeing the work study grants turn into more debt ANGUISHES ME. WHY. WHY.

Simple. You’re looking for jobs in the obvious places. Try in the non obvious places. I landed my first real job (still working there) as a janitor at the UCEN. Just the other day another student was hired. You should go to the administrative office to see if there are any positions open.

My son is working at Ortega dining commons. I talked to him Sunday and he said that several people quit in the last two weeks and they are having a hard time covering the shifts. (insider info)

Also, take a good, honest look in the mirror and be sure you see someone that is employable. Put yourself in the employers shoes and figure out what you are lacking or what your warts are. If I were hiring a student, I would look for a decent appearance (clean looking, no distracting tatoos, hair-doos, piercings, etc.), the ability to speak decently, and good confident eye-contact. I would stay away from students that are negative, and that mumble and don’t look at you, or just portray either laziness (no energy) or a lack of confidence.

Good luck, don’t give up, and don’t blame the economy.
