yeah...im a "Ventures Scholar". Its a good program if your interested in majoring in something dealing with either math or science. They give alot of oppurtunities....including "special deals" with some colleges on their summer programs letting you attend free of charge along with free airfare. They have bi-weekly newsletters on different subjects that are really interesting and helpful. They have a huge list of colleges that are "member colleges" and im pretty sure if you apply to one saying that your a ventures scholar it wouldnt hurt!

I'm reviving this thread.

Any help is appreciated!

Can it hurt to apply? It looks like a good opportunity to me, especially if your standardized test scores are average or slightly below average. I wish I was a minority so I could get nominated.

My son seemed to get a lot of invitations to "diversity weekends" and 1 offer from Marist College for 1/2 tuition being a Venture Scholar. Some things he ignored because he wasn't interested, some he thought were just not feasible. I think though that he might of had a chance at some colleges that were reaches, othes like Amherst, Swarthmore and Cornell he wouldn't of had a shot with otherwise. He didn't go just to add another application to the pile but in the world of admissions, you never know. The persistance in the offers was almost weekly it seemed, but you can't say it was genuine interest. I do think the program is good though.
His sisters might be more intersted in the weekends and other perks offered, but he knew what he wanted and didn't deviate much.

Asisan people can't get into.
