I just got an email from UCLA asking me to clarify the gap between end of high school, and my start of college. Also they want me to upload unofficial transcripts confirming my academic renewal from Fall 2010 and Spring 2011.

First question, how would they like me clarify my gap? A simple reply email? Or do I need to update my application? Do they just want to know why I was out of school?

Also is this a good sign so late in the game? Could I be borderline?

Read the email carefully. It’ll tell you exactly what you need to do to respond.

I’ve been asked by UCB and UCD for additional info and they both just sent me an email with a link to a site in which I could enter the additional info and also could upload supporting documents. The email they sent me said to use that website and to not reply to the email with the info.

As far as what it means, don’t even bother speculating.

Exactly what he said^
UCLA sent me an email about emailing them a transcript copy from a previous university I attended.
There’s a message box where you can explain your gap there.

I don’t think it means anything, my guess would be they don’t want anything missing/unexplained in your application before they send it to the committies to decide.
