Greetings Rishav17!

We came across in other forums and it seems we have pretty much applied to the same universities
Anyways, how do you know the verification isn’t meant for international students?
Best of luck! :)

It doesn’t hold true for Internationals.

Though, few colleges (Cornell included) do sometimes ask for verification of finances from International students before hand. This has nothing to do with the FAFSA verification and usually is because the info submitted through CSS profile may be incomplete/etc.(Though history suggests - many of those Intn’l students who got this request - were accepted!)

Cornell:
“Federal Verification 2013-14
March 12, 2013
As we begin to update our FAFSA information for applicants and current students, you may have noticed some new items on your financial aid To Do List related to federal verification. At this time, you are not required to submit items related to federal verification, and being selected does not prevent an aid eligibility review for incoming regular decision freshman and transfers. We will contact students directly via email with detailed instructions on how to meet requirements for federal verification.”

When did you guys hand in all your FA information? Maybe this is based on how early or how late you submitted everything?

maybe there’s a chance that they notify eop/heop applicants seperately

Let me get this straight because I feel like I may be getting too excited

If we have all of these changes and things we need to verify, are we in? All I need is a simple “Maybe not” or “Yes”

Has there been anyone in past who saw this on their To Do List and not been accepted? Or vice-versa? Because everyone so far who has seen the verification request has been accepted and I’m freaking out

Apparently this happens every year but no one has really been able to refute whether it is related to acceptance

Do you guys think any of this is applicable if I haven’t submitted tax returns yet (as in, does anyone has it who hasn’t completed stuff that was due earlier like the parent and student tax returns)? Yes, I know they will be very late (it doesn’t appear as if I’ll qualify for much anyways but here’s hoping) but my parents won’t have have everything filed until early April. So I guess I’m asking: anyone have this who didn’t submit the tax returns or other basic stuff?

@cbear i have the same thing. all my to do list says is parent and student tax returns due 2/15… woops :P

I submitted the FAFSA prior to 2/15 and sent the tax returns on 2/15. On my financial aid to-do list, it says both have not yet been received. Should I contact the office of financial aid or is it normal for them to take this long to process?

@watson–I’d assume this verification concept probably wouldn’t apply then since there aren’t even tax returns forms etc to be verified yet… It is very difficult for my parents to file taxes early so I’m stuck FA-wise until then…I just love Cornell! Que sera sera, but I hope it’s good news for all of us come end of March!

I got emailed a permanent resident verification request from FA a week or so ago. I can’t log onto my Cornell site (forgot how to OTL and can’t remember pw) so we’ll see about this other thing. I think we really screwed up our FA submissions so every time I get a request to send in something or complete my FA, I’ve been accepted. Which is really scary for me more than good, because I haven’t gotten anything from the HYPMS schools that I’ve applied to Man I’m so screwed.

So what does it mean if Cornell asks for stuff to be verified, but its not due until May? For example my financial aid portal say’s I have 5 things due May 6th.

I don’t think to much of it though. Honestly, it probably has no bearing on your admission decision. Best not to get all worked up about it.

Stay positive!!

Nope all of my stuff is still 2/15/13. Hmm maybe I didn’t get in. Oh well, no point in worrying cuz it’s not getting me anywhere =w=

So…what do you guys think?

If I have those changes is it a “Maybe” or a “Yes”?

I actually don’t want to know now. lolol

I don’t think it really means much to be honest. I looked it up and cornell said only a select few get the verification stuff and it’s done randomly. Doubtful it has anything to do with your admissions.

I haven’t even finished my application yet but I still able to see those under my to-do list

I wouldn’t worry about it to much. I believe the Verification process is done randomly. The reason why I think this is because over a month and a half ago I received a letter in the mail requesting all of my financial aid materials, including the verification request. Then, around February 28 I got an email telling me to make sure everything was submitted, including the verification sheet, yet in my financial aid to-do list I have nothing there. So don’t worry! ^-^ Good luck everyone!
