Verification Worksheet

I was checking to make sure Brown had received all my financial aid requirements, and I noticed an unfulfilled requirement that wasn’t there before: verification worksheet. I followed the links and found out what that is, but does anyone else have this requirement?

hmmm. what is that? i filled out one for Dartmouth’s Financial Aid… but not Brown??

If Brown is requiring a verification worksheet, you can find a link to the form on their Financial Aid site at https://financialaid.brown.edu/Cmx_Content.aspx?cpId=311</a>.</p>

FAFSA: Verification

The Verification form isn’t an uncommon request. Here’s good information from the Sallie Mae site that explains why you may have been selected to submit a verification.

Verification is a process to confirm information you provided on the FAFSA. The U.S. Department of Education selects some FAFSAs for verification. Others are selected by schools due to discrepancies in their data.

These are the main reasons for being selected:

You were chosen randomly.
The FAFSA you submitted was incomplete.
Your FAFSA contains estimated information.
The data you provided on the FAFSA is inconsistent.
If you are selected for FAFSA verification, you must provide specific documentation. Not all students selected for verification have to submit the same documents. Save the records and materials that you used to complete the FAFSA.

Verification ensures that the information students and parents report is accurate. Verification prevents ineligible students from receiving aid by reporting false information and ensures that eligible students receive all of the aid for which they are qualified.

The sooner you verify your information, the sooner you’ll be able to receive financial aid if you’re eligible.

Additional information from Sallie Mae: They explain that if your FAFSA was selected for verification by the Dept. of Education, an asterisk (*) will appear after your EFC on your student aid report. As of my replying to this thread right now, the FAFSA site seems to be down.

Oh, that’s a very thorough response, thank you. It has no relationship to the decision for tomorrow, right?

Oops…

Somehow one of my sentences ended up in the middle of info I quoted from Sallie Mae. I don’t want anyone to think the information came from me. Heck – I’m not that knowledgeable. ;-)

Anyway, the Salie Mae info was really informative and worth sharing with the thread. The original page can be accessed at [FAFSA Verification](<a href=“College Planning - Make a Plan For College | Sallie Mae”>College Planning - Make a Plan For College | Sallie Mae).

Underscore: I don’t think the requirement showing up has anything to do with admissions decisions, but rather a function of Financial Aid doing their work. Then again, what do I know?

Best of luck when decisions come out tomorrow! :-)
