i received to fill out a VERIFICATION for FAFSA for one of the schools I applied to...
something raised questions about my FAFSA.....
what is this all about?
how come only one school sent this?
any one know?
thanks

If your SAR had an asterick next to it you were something like 30% of people randomly selected. Just copy your tax returns W2's, sign tax return and return to the school with the completed form. I received this from the 8 schools my D applied to. Talk about paperwork!

Sometimes, schools select a student for verification even if the FAFSA application wasn't selected by the Department of Education. Typically, this means that the school has seen something on your FAFSA that, based on their experience appears wrong or questionable. Some schools examine the information on the FAFSA application more thoroughly then others...and some schools choose to verify 100% of applicants. Just be sure to send copies (not originals) of all requested documents....and do make sure to sign the copies of the tax return.

sorry if this is an obvious question- but if you efile you don't "sign"..so are you still supposed to sign the copy you send to the college?

You need to place your signature on the bottom of the tax return prior to sending it to the school, even if you efiled. This is a federal regulation which schools must follow. It basically is confirming that your tax return is accurate.

what is an SAR
the school (HONORS CUNY HUNTER) says that my FAFSA was selected by the US Department of Education for VERIFICATION....
and even if i dont go to that school... i should send the verification and tax returns to the school i will attend in the fall...
what i dont understand is that Honors CUNY is FREE anyway... full scholarship
whats the problem? what happened?
is this from the school or government?....

fafsa still provides aid, even if you are in honors. the cuny honors college simply pays off whatever was left. sar is the student aid report, i believe that gives you a summary of what you listed on the application.
