VERY Bad Semester

In sophomore year, I had been going through a lot personally (not an excuse) which has caused me to do very poorly during first semester. In regular courses, I earned 1 A, and 3 B’s. In AP courses, I earned 1 B and 1 D( in AP Chemistry). However, I learned from this and received straight A’s every semester onwards. I retook AP Chemistry at a community college over the summer to earn an A for grade forgiveness. (Have not calculated that into my GPA, calculated with a D).

My overall weighted GPA is 4.33, and unweighted 3.83.

Apart from school, I feel I have very strong extracurriculars (leadership, dedication, and recognition). Many of these activities are also presumably uncommon. I also have a strong SAT score (2370) as well as strong SAT II scores. I hope to major in a growing, but rare major for females: Computer Science/Web Development. (Also, can someone explain what would happen if I selected an unpopular major (ex. Latin/Cosmetology, etc etc) and switched to my major? Like how would that work and the likelihood of being successful with that). I hope to go to schools such as MIT/Cornell/Brown/Princeton.

What is the likelihood of AO looking past this one semester and accepting me?

Well, without test scores we don’t really know if you have a chance to begin with. But aside from that I think that an upward trend is highly regarded and a 3.83 (albeit not the best) is not that bad of a UW GPA. Of course 3 B’s and D’s will hurt but it should not automatically put you in the reject pile.
