Very Confused About Choosing Major

I’m very confused in choosing a major. I want to major in psychology, but would a bachelor’s degree in psych limit me to what I want to do in the medical field? (or if I don’t get into med school, what type of career would I have with this degree?) I’m also confused as to how much it matters what your major is in college. My parents say that graduating with a degree from a bio or even a biopsychology major will give me more options and that I’m only choosing a psych major because it has easier classes (which is partly true). I guess im also worried that if I can’t get as good grades in bio courses than in psych courses, it would hurt my science GPA and thus prevent me from getting into med school. Thanks for any comments.

Well of course you have to do well in your science courses but your major really doesn’t matter. Do something you love. If for whatever reason, medschool falls through then have a major where you could have the kind of career that you would actually enjoy. Psychology is considered an easy major at my school but I would be pulling my hair out if my career was anything psych related, so major in a subject that you can actually see yourself working in.

Also, med school absolutely don’t give a s*** what you major in. As long as you take the proper premed courses you’ll do fine. And when you’re talking to adcom about why you majored in what you did you probably want to sound authentic. Its very difficult to bs passion.

Also, what options are your parents talking about? Options other than medschool? Or options in medschool?

Chemfreak is correct. Major in what you are interested in, not what you think committees are. It will show in your grades and your success.
