if a tree falls in the forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?

of course it does

define "sound."

`Tis the question that has plagued the populations.

It makes a sound. What is stopping it? Now if it were in a vacuum, then there would be no medium for the sound waves to travel through, and no sound can be heard.

Here is the answer: The tree makes sound, but not audible sound.

Case closed. This thread can now die.

The sound is audible, just not heard. The sound has the potential to be processed by the human brain. Sound exists; if it not heard or not has no significance on the actual mechanical vibrations that create it.

either way we should be careful because if we really can't hear a falling tree than walking through the woods is a hazardous activity
