Hi guys, so I am taking the act on September 21 and I'm starting to prep for it know. I have been using the real act prep guide and the Kaplan 2010 review book. On the red book practice exams my recent scores are: 25 in English, 23 in Math, 20 in reading :(, and 22 in science. Please I have to get a 24 or above in all sections to get a composite score of 26 and get into a pre-dental program ( I want more than that though but idk). So I was thinking about getting the Princeton cracking the act book and the Barrons 36. Should I get these book? Will they help me get my score up to that? and what other books should I get? if you guys have any suggestions. Also will I be able to get this score within these 2 months, I am so determined to, and how much should I prep for. Sorry for making this so long but my curiosity and practice test scores were haunting me. Thank you so much for everything, u guys rock! And btw I got a 27 on the English section if the practice test on the Kaplan book, How are those practice test compared to the real thing?

Again Thanks so much for reading this mess!

When do you have to have the 26 by? If it is senior year, chill out for a year (and by that I mean concentrate on school, not testing) or a year and a half (or 2 or 2.5 if you are a rising freshman). Read books and pay attention in math and you’ll do quite better when it is really time to take the ACT (junior year). If you don’t need the score for a couple more years, don’t take this ACT. (Well, I guess you may have paid for it already, but don’t intend on getting a 26.) You’re already scoring a bit above the average senior. If you keep up your hard work, you’ll be able to get your 26 (and probably higher) within time.

Although I don’t have experience with the kaplan ACT book, I have used their books before and have found them way too easy. (Like I got a 238 or something on the Kaplan psat book and got a 228 in real life. I found that the CR part was too simple and the math problems had a bunch of typos. The best prep book is the real act guide with practice tests from previous ACTs.

Hi I just finished my freshman year with a 4.0 and am currently on summer break. I crushes me that I only get these low scores on the practices test cuz I try so hard in school, get straight A’s, but only get these scores on the real act practice tests. And yea I need to get the 26 or above in senior year. Ugghhhh I hope I get it. Thank you so much for posting it means a lot. And yea I’m giving the test on the 21 of September, so like in 2 months

It shouldn’t crush you too bad. Most people don’t learn all ACT math until the end of 11th grade, and science will come along with increased reading comprehension and more science classes. (I cant tell you how bad my science and well, everything else score would be if I had only finished 9th grade.) The ACT results will tell you what to focus on but you shouldn’t focus too much on testing until later in your high school career. Focus on classes next school year and take a practice test or two at the end of the year to see how you’ve improved.

Ok thanks! I’m taking it because my parents wanted me to lol. And I really want to know what book would help my score increase the most
