Very Important Question

I got a 1490 on my PSATs (I'm a junior). I know the score is really low, but I was sick that day and I didn't study. I am not making excuses but I studied for perhaps 30 minutes.

I am a very good student in school, I have a 3.8-3.9 GPA (UW) and a 4.40 GPA (W).

I have registered for the SATs on March 12th, 2010 and I will be taking Kaplan Test Prep from February 5th to March 2nd.

Will colleges look at my PSAT scores? Is this score really low, any moral support for me?

How will this hurt my chances for getting into school in California??

colleges dont look at PSATs at all…they are only considered if you do very well becauses in that cause you can become a National Merit Scholar. so you’re good haha

Your PSAT score won’t affect your admissions chances. As for whether it’s really low, it could obviously be better, but there are definitely colleges out there that take plenty of students in the 1400-1500 range. It just doesn’t add up with your GPA, so unless you raise it a lot, you probably won’t stand a great shot at schools that are more suited for people with your gpa.

It depends on what school in California.

Colleges don’t see your PSAT scores. They don’t go on your application, and they aren’t sent with your SAT score report to colleges. You don’t have anything to worry about.

1490 out of 240??? Wow, you must be REALLY smart! :D

Do you guys have any suggestions of how I should study?

LOTS and LOTS of practice problems.

So practice book? Do you think Kaplan will help me?

I found that Princeton Review really helped me. It boosted my score from 1880 to 2060  Also; see if your school or any local places offer SAT prep courses. They’re really useful.
