Very inconsistant scores

I took the ACT in April and got a 31. However I got it in a very strange way. My subscores go as follows:
Science- 35
Math- 32
English- 35
Reading- 23
I don't really know how this happened. But I want to retake it and get a 34, which can be done if I just fix my reading section. Can someone give me advice for how to imrpove my reading score?

Yes, you have to read alot! I believe its the only and fastest way. Pick up a book and have u and ur study partner read it but be a 9 grade level or above. Its better if its above. Read the book and have him come up with questions for u to answer. Try to finish a book in one or two sitting, this will improve reading speed. Try to read ALOT! like before i took my act for a month i would read 2-3 200 page books each in one day. My reading speed is like almost 200 words per minute now.

36 on reading here.

Take AP Lang

Read books/passages and learn to immediately and subconscious identify “Purpose, Theme, Tone, Contrast, Comparison, and Rhetoric”. There’s probably some more, but that’s exactly what the SAT and ACT test for.

Depends AP lang in some schools are for senior class

I’m not good at reading by any means, but I improved by reading books and comparing my understanding of chapter summaries with spark notes. It allowed me to see what I recalled from what I read and if my general understanding was correct. This probably won’t be helpful once you get over a 31, because then you will need to understand more than just summaries of a text–you will need to understand the reading at a sentence-level basis.
