Probably about 400 hours of community service (at least) so far since the beginning of freshman year.

No real “hooks” other than I overcame more obstacles in life than most people have to: parents were drug dealers, I’ve taken care of my father since he was in a near fatal car crash many years ago, overcame PTSD after rape [which I now use to help other girls like me], and was in and out of the hospital most of my life due to a weak immune system and chronic pneumonia.
Those don’t really count though, but they do reflect my character in that I take every bad thing that happens and turn it into a positive way to help others :].

Thanks to those of you who actually took the time to read this veryyyyy long post.

Chances for: (mostly long shots, but I can dream :].)
Brown (ED) –> Egyptology.
U of Michigan (instate) –> Near Eastern Civilizations.
U of Chicago –> Near Eastern Civilizations.
Amherst.
Cornell.

I highly doubt it, lol. But what makes you say that?

Thanks though :].

And yes I really am thinking of Egyptology which is why I want to go to Brown so badly.

I'd say you're in at Michigan, and your chances at the others are good, more so if you bring up the ACT score.

wow... a 3 on AP Bio self studied??? MAJOR props!

Holy crap... I hope the authorities got that ******* who did that to you.

Other than that.. I don't know enough about those college's acceptances to chance you... But If I had a college, I'd accept you!

MRoH He was acquitted because I couldn't testify. PTSD blocked it from my mind, took me years to get it back (although it coulda stayed blocked). He was a highly respected member of the community though so nobody thought he could EVER do anything like that.

He ended up losing everything. His wife to cancer, his career, his place in his community. So I believe in karma. :]

Well I dunno bout his wife dying but everything else I say he deserved.

Agk I hate how inconsistant our justice system is...

Oh, I wouldn't wish death on anybody. But his wife knew what had happened and testified I had made the whole thing up. Even though SHE was the one who took me to the hospital.

GAH! Oh well, I'm at peace with the whole thing.

There's more to the story that I really don't feel like revealing.

Thanks for the help though on the chances :].

kyledavid, thanks :] I'm already signed up to retake the ACT.

I think you're in at Brown.

Props for doing so stellar, despite the unfortunates.

Wow that's pretty stupid..

Alright I'll leave it at that..

Yeah the ACT was just about the only thing I saw that needed some improvement.

I say IN at Michigan

Kudos to you

Oh why havent you gotten your sat results yet?? have they been delayed??

No, I haven't been home to check the mail. Our house is under construction. Should I have gotten them back?

They're up online.. check collegeboard.com

maybe you could take the ACT over to get a 30+ and then you are pretty much guarenteed a spot at many of the colleges you listed. All would be slight reaches. Since you are going for a major in egyptology and ED.. you are in at Brown.. I am glad that the monster that raped you got what he deserved. You are truly an inspiration. :]

Wow you have indeed survived a lot, you could write a book. I am sorry for the tragedy in your life but truly applaud you amazing comeback and resilience! Iam no expert but my guess is that you have an excellent chance at the schools you mentioned. You are truly a "comeback kid" and schools love to give someone like you a chance. I would also be sure that your advisor takes extra time to spell out all that you have had to face as a kid, and all the many roadblocks that you were able to navigate. I am sure that will speak volumes to the admissions officers. Have you since found out your SAT scores? I would imagine you have, were you happy with them? Also are the schools mentioned the only ones you are applying to or are there going to be others? Good luck to you either way!

Stop stressing, you're in.

Are you serious about Egyptology? What made you choose that?

^ Yes, I'm serious lol. I've always loved ancient Egypt and I was originally going to go for either anthropology or archeology, but Egyptology and something just felt right... lol that sounds so corny.

As for the SAT scores, I apologize, I meant my SAT IIs were coming in. I wrote this late and sleep deprived and I just forgot the 2. My apologies.

But my math 2 score came in as a 710, which I knew I did bad on because I was sick and am retaking it this Saturday along with bio (wish me luck :].)

I'm taking my SAT in January. Again so sorry for the misunderstanding lol.
And we retake the ACT in March (?) for free through the state of Michigan.

ctmomof3, I'm applying to Amherst, William and Mary, Cornell, Brown, U of Michigan, Michigan State (my safety), U of Chicago, UCLA, and Berkley. But I've definitely decided on applying to Brown ED.

Oh and just out of curiosity... Why do so many of you guys say I have a pretty good shot at Brown? My test and GPA are pretty low for Ivies so I'm just curious as to why I'd be a good candidate.

Hey, not everything is about the test scores you know!

The fact is, you are a very unique student...being someone who is aiming to go into an extremely "boring" field of study myself (business/finance), I have never met someone who wanted to major in Egyptology or anything remotely CLOSE to that!

Your level of community involvement shows that you are clearly a very passionate individual who is not afraid to follow her heart...

and besides, you still have another year to pull up those test scores and boost your GPA!

Frankly, if I were denied admission to my top choice school for a person like you, I would have zero objections

Good Luck! :D

^^ Aw, thanks. Lol it's been a really bad day so that helped me. Probably the first time I've smiled in 24 hours. (We had to put down my doggie :[.)

Yes, I hope to get my scores up. I have an SAT prep book, but I haven't had time to do anything with it. I'm going into the subject tests this weekend cold turkey. Oh well...

PS. I myself find business/finance very boring and Egypt is just... I'm not sure... captivating? Ahh... to each his/her own :].
