VERY LOW COST OOS COA universities......less than $25k COA for everything!

This is a VERY SMALL, VERY CATHOLIC college in New Hampshire. Starting in the fall of 2014 room and board will be free to everyone. Cost of tuition is 20,600.

mods…please remove my post and the above post.

@dudedad - S1 just graduated from Marshall and S2 will go there this fall. They do offer some good merit for OOS students since they don’t qualify for PROMISE, our state scholarship. They also offer “metro” tuition and fees for students from border counties. As for WVU, it’s well known for low OOS tuition. They don’t call it the University of Southern Pennsylvania for nothing! ;-)

McNeese State University

OOS Tuition: 10902
Books: 1200
Room and Board: 3660 (lowest available).

Total cost of attendance: 15762.

OOS students with 2.25 GPA and 21 ACT/980 SAT composite will be offered the in-state rate. The cost of attendance then is brought down to 10,500.

Note that the tuition and fees for Western Carolina University includes book rental for all classes. My daughter is a sophomore at WCU and she did not need to purchase any books. I did a campus visit at Appalachian State with my son in April, and they also indicated book rental is included their fees.

Harvard (the extension school), $1250 per undergraduate course. Business and computer science courses are $2200.

extension.harvard.edu

^ Harvard extension does not make you an Harvard University or Harvard College graduate… JFYI.

Harvard allows its extension school graduates to present their qualification in this manner:

Harvard University, MLA/whatever in Extension Studies, Liberal Arts or whatever.

Emporia State U. (Kansas)–for KS residents and residents of some MO and OK counties: $13,208.

For Colorado, Texas, Nebraska and remaining OK and MO counties (NEARR program) and Midwest Student Exchange: Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and North Dakota: $15, 294.

All other states:
$24, 982. Amounts listed Include tuition/fees/room/board/books/supplies for one year.

They also offer renewable ACT score/HS GPA based scholarships (even if you have an ACT score as low as 21 and a HS GPA of 3.0, you get $1000. Higher scores/GPA gets you more $).

Fort Hays State U. (KS) is even less, with costs of $12,588.50 (in state) $14,313.50 (MSEP) $21,278.30 (OOS) in the same categories (except there is no in-state discount for those MO/OK counties). ACT score based scholarships also offered–even for relatively low scores.

These are the two least expensive of the 6 Regents universities in KS–about 1/2 the cost of KU/K-State.

I just stumbled across this thread when @ucbalumnus‌ mentioned it. what a great idea, @mom2collegekids‌!

Many of the schools on this list. http://www.free-4u.com/colleges/Arkansas-Colleges.html</a>
This is a great site to compare costs of many colleges in each state at one time. (Click on other states on the left side of this page.) Also, be sure to look up individual colleges, because many offer in-state rates to students from neighboring states or counties.

One example-- U. of Arkansas (Fayetteville-- this is the state flagship–nice campus) offers:
The New Arkansan Non-Resident Tuition Award, NRTA is awarded to entering freshmen and transfer students from Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, Missouri, Kansas, and Oklahoma. Entering freshmen must have a 3.25 or higher cumulative high school GPA and ACT of at least 24 or 1090 SAT (combined math and critical reading). Transfer students must have at least a 3.0 or higher cumulative college GPA and at least 24 transferable hours. Transfer students with less than 24 hours, must meet both the entering freshmen and transfer student requirements.

The NRTA is only available to incoming new students. A student who does not meet the eligibility criteria at the time of enrollment cannot become eligible for the award in a future term.

Award Amount
Entering freshmen with a 3.60 or higher cumulative GPA and a 26 or higher ACT (1170 SAT combined math and critical reading) will receive an New Arkansan NRTA that pays 90% of the difference between the in-state and out-of-state tuition. Entering freshmen with a 3.25-3.59 cumulative GPA and a 24 or higher ACT (1090 SAT combined math and critical reading) will receive an New Arkansan NRTA that pays 80% of the difference between in-state and out-of-state tuition.

Transfer students with a 3.30 or higher cumulative transfer GPA will receive an New Arkansan NRTA that pays 90% of the difference between the in-state and out-of-state tuition. Transfer students with a 3.00-3.29 cumulative transfer GPA will receive an New Arkansan NRTA that pays 80% of the difference between in-state and out-of-state tuition.

Renewal Criteria
Students must complete 24 or more hours per academic year and maintain a 2.75 or higher cumulative GPA to renew the New Arkansan Non-Resident Tuition Award.

(With the 90% reduction in out-of-state charges, the COA would then be about 19K per year. This is less than some of those other state’s in-state rates for their flagships.)

York College in PA only $22,580 (tuition, fees, room and board)
404;

^This link is for York College in Nebraska, not Pennsylvania. York College of PA has similarly priced tuition but higher room and board.

oops! thanks for the correction!

William Woods University (Williamwoods.edu) in Missouri. Total costs/fees are $29,940 but they have scholarships and in addition, every student who agrees to attend campus events gets a $5k scholarship each year under the LEAD program, so that brings it just under $25k.

Also in Missouri is Park University (park.edu) that’s around $23k. It has a big online presence so I’m not sure what campus life is like at its main campus.
