Very nervous..can someone chance me?

I felt almost confident about finishing up my W&M application before coming on here. Now I'm freaking out by some stats.

SAT: 1270/1960 (Horrible compared to most on here, but highest in my school..)
GPA: 4.3-ish
Class Rank: 3 of 147
AP: History (4), Biology (4), Government current..(only 3 AP classes that every have enough students..)
DE: Pre-cal, Calc, English (only 3 offered)
EC: Lots..volleyball, band, scholastic bowl, class president, National Honor Society, etc..with leadership in almost everything

I'm so nervous. Compared to other people in my school I stand out, but I am nervous about my chances of actually getting in. I do lots of community service and am an EMT. Good recommendations. So..what do you think?

Hi,

I hate to ask, but are you a boy or a girl?

On another thread, there is a discussion about boys and girls' admissions rates.

:-)

More important than gender is whether you are in or out of state.

LOL I'm with inchoative -- state residency is definitely more important. If you're in state and a boy I'd say you're an almost definite in; if you're in state and a girl you have a good chance; if you're an out of state boy I'd say 50/50; if you're an out of state girl I'd say no. It also definitely doesn't help that you didn't apply ED.

I'm from VA and a girl

And I only didn't apply ED because I was unsure if W&M was my perfect fit.

Of course -- and that was a smart choice. But it doesn't change the fact that it's harder to get in RD.

I think you're in pretty good shape tough. Good luck.

Thank you very much!

Yes looks like a good chance. Definetly play up the community service WM loves it!!

Couple of suggestions -

Get a second recommendation from one of the community service groups.

Also write a cover letter speaking to if you took the toughest course load at your school and explain why if you did not.

The read it all!!

Also be creative with the optional submission. with all the ECs and Community service think about "a day in the life" it wil show the real you. they really like when the "YOU" comes on through.

Check out the blogs by the admission asst. deans. lots of hints there on preparing an application.

Good luck

I already submitted one recommendation, and I think I read somewhere that they request no more than one optional submission. Should I still send in one from a service leader? And thank you very much for the suggestions!

I think it was one recommendation, not optional submission. A couple of the blogs speak to the additional references and they read it all. If you think that is what will show you as unique addition to the incoming class go for it. They very much beleive in the importance of community service.

I think you will probably get in. I think your GPA and rank will make up for your SAT.

And just wondering, does anyone know who has the best pre-med program out of W&M, UVA, and U of R? I'm thinking it's UVA, but pre-med is really just high science classes, so would it really matter where I went (if accepted, of course).

it doesnt really matter where you go, as long as you do well in your science classes and MCATs...but, if you want to compare, W&M has just over 80% acceptance rate into medical schools, while UVA has 65% acceptance rate into medical schools...you can take that for what its worth

Ok thank you!

What is your unweighted gpa? Colleges hardly care about weighted anymore.

Unweighted is a 4.0.
