Very regional/suitcase school?

Hi

Our K2 is VERY interested in St Joes...
we live waaaay out of the region...

What's the campus like on a avg weekend?
Do many go home?

Many moons ago I went to a large state flagship in another region...not realizing how many went home on weekends....the dorms would be ghost towns.
Don't want to see our K2 experience that

so please - whats the honest scoop?

@fogfog-My D is also thinking of visiting St.Joe’s so I will be interested in the responses you get. They have a very loyal alumni base and were always known as having a great school spirit and happy students. (like UDayton). I will be interested to see if anything changed.

I decided to register with my daughter for the Spring Preview open house for juniors in April. My daughter is interested in a college the size of SJU and is looking for a campus with a lot of school spirit. I have heard from past graduates that SJU has plenty of that. I hope it meets her expectations. Looking forward to the visit.

No responses yet…

I know from admissions that a large portion of the student body is from the tri state area.

Our k2 really likes the school- so I think it will stay on the list

True, Many kids are from area. They do not all go home. Kids will go home more in any urban area vs. rural(penn state)due to access. Kids make friends, do hw and go out, some go home during day. Many go to Manayunk to hang out or go to parties. Go to Admitted Students day if possible-sold my D who is Sophmore Athlete. She is home 1x 4-5 weeks, sometimes day only for laundry and money! Visit Manayunk, Art Museum Area, KOP mall and Penn/Drexel campus area when visiting these are places the kids spend time when not at sju.

although I don’t have a child at the school… ( we take the tour tomorrow!) my daugher is a sophomore in college. She has a about a dozen friends at St Joes in her grade and about 5 that are seniors. We live about 90 mins from the school in NJ. None of them go home on a regular basis. I have not heard any complaints from them about being bored or lonely on the weekends. This was a big concern for me when choosing schools for my daughter (she’s at Udel) and now my son. I am not concerned with this at St Joe’s.

My son is a recent graduate. He only came home for Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter each year. We live about 6 hours from SJU. Many of his friends lived out of state and stayed in Philly on the weekends, as well. He lived in Manayunk for his last two years of school and even stayed during the summer. He loved living in that area.
