Very Slim Cornell AEM chances???

So my dream is to apply to Cornell CALS school in the Applied Economics and Management major. I have a lot of questions regarding my situation. Here's my situation so far:

Stats:
SAT: 1300/2040-- CR, 670; Math, 630; Writing 740 (superscored, very low I know)
GPA: ~3.8 unweighted, school doesn't do weighted
APs: English Lang (self-trained 3, didn't send), AP Bio, AP Calc AB, AP Eng. Lit.
Honors: Geometry, Earth Science, Living Environment, Integrated Algebra, Global History, (Mastery scores on all NYS Regents exams)

Subjective:
ECs: Certificate in Peer Mediation, Summer class at Emory U. for Experimental Econ, Club Soccer on a nationally ranked African team, Chess Club, Future Business Leaders (Treasurer 2x), Varsity Soccer (4x, captain), Advanced Orchestra (first string cello), Schoolwide Science fair (one 1st place and 1 second place award), Schoolwide History Fair, taught myself several instruments (african djembe, xylophone, clarinet), National Achievement Award, Model UN (1 of 6 selected for conference in Ghana and South Africa), ~100 volunteer hours-including helping construct homes in a poor West African village,

Background:
Rising Senior, New York Resident (so in-state), African-American male (so URM), currently live in Ivory Coast in West Africa which is an extremely poor area, my school hasn't offered any APs or very many extracurricular activities as a result (yet it is considered the top school in Ivory Coast, will apply Early Decision, only applicant from my school. I will apply for financial aid. I do work on my dad's plantationand so I'm poised to take over his 20-acre rubber-tree plantation as soon as I finish college

Situation: I am aware that the Cornell AEM program is extremely difficult to get into. However, I have heard it helps alot to have a certain fit for the program. Do you think that my stats along with the Future Business Leaders leadership, Summer College Economics class, the plantation business experience, and my background, shows a good enough 'fit' to at least be competitive for admission to the program? Also, is it a good idea to apply Early? Could being a NY resident or being the only one to apply from my school or URM status help at all?

Thanks for reading all this, and I would appreciate any kind of insight or response to these questions!!!

Hi! I think your GPA puts you in the ballpark but I would recommend retaking the SAT to see if you can get in the 2200+ ballpark, which will really have the admissions committees take you seriously. I think your ECs are really unique, and your demonstrated interest in African culture is something very few people will have so really emphasize that in your essay. If you can get your SAT up and Cornell is your first choice, applying ED would be in your favor. Good luck and chance me back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1673832-will-chance-back-chance-me-for-cmc-barnard-bryn-mawr-columbia-stanford-cornell-umich.html?new=1</a></p>

Thanks alot @vballgurl ! I’ll see what I can do about the score. And sure, I’ll chance you. Anyone else???

bump bump bump

I think your SAT is a bit low, def try to retake it! Also I recommend taking an ACT. What are your scores on your AP’s? Your EC’s are great though  I think if you raise your SAT score and get a 33+ on the ACT, you’re sure to get in to Cornell. Good luck, chance me back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1674376-i-really-need-help-please.html#latest</a></p>

What major are you going for? Your ECs are pretty good, but you should try to focus on activities that demonstrate your passion for your major. Despite your URM, your SAT score is too low. If you’re doing well academically, the ACT would be better for you. Try getting 2250 or 34. With those stats, you’re definitely a great candidate!
Good luck,
Please chance me back: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1672761-chance-me-for-stanford-university.html</a></p>

Thanks alot guys, I’ll work take another SAT in October. In the meantime, anymore advice/opinions/predictions anyone???

bump…

bump bump bump

bump

bump applying pretty soon guys (after i retake those sat’s) any last ideas…

@IVCUSA11‌ Cornell requires you to send all SATs or ACTs you take, they are not score choice. I’d still take both, but if you do well enough on the ACT, just submit that. Cornell is a school that really looks down upon repeated standardized testing, so as long as you do well on the ACT, that would be the only score you’d need to report. Other than that you look like a real strong applicant, so if you can get a 33+ on the ACT I’d say your low reach for Cornell (applying ED would make you a high match).
