I'm going to be a senior this year and I need to know if it's worth my time to apply anywhere. I know I can get into KU because I meet their guaranteed admissions standards. I just want to go to a school that's equally good, but out of state.

I have a 2.5 gpa, a 28 ACT (35 eng, 19 math, 33 reading, 25 sci) and a moderately difficult schedule.

I am copy editor of the school newspaper, PR director and president of Latin Club, an active member of Young Democrats of America. I'm in a few other clubs too. I had some small leadership positions freshman year and got honorable mention at regional journalism competition (a pretty minor achievement).

But I also was diagnosed with ADHD and started taking Adderall a few months ago. My grades will definitely improve, but my cumulative gpa won't change much. My mom has a disability and I come from a very low income, single-parent home; she's graduating from college this month, and she'll be the first in her family.

Considering that my stats and situation are both very atypical, what kind of chance do I have at schools like:
Louisiana State
Mississippi
Texas Christian
Southern Methodist
Oklahoma State
South Carolina
Kentucky
Arizona
Arizona State
Auburn
Alabama
Tennessee
West Virginia
Indiana
Colorado State

I'm not too knowledgeable about the schools that you mentioned, but your extracurriculars sound good! as long as you (somehow) point out your situation and emphasize that you are a hard worker, or love learning, or something along those lines, i'll think you'll do fine... btw why don't you check out butler university up in... hmmm... illinois maybe? it sounds like it might fit your criteria... good luck!

A friend of mine got into Arizona (and AZ state as well) with a similar GPA to yours simply b/c she was able to score a 1290 on her SATs... thats roughly the same as a 28 ACT... and yours scores are brought down by that horrible math score (sorry lol, its true) but I will take that split any day since the colleges will know you are an awesome student who is simply not able to crack the numbers.

Well, these replies are a lot more optimistic than I had expected.

I'm getting my paperwork in to have extended time during the ACT in October. I KNOW this will help my science score (I had to fill in random answers on the whole last part of it). How much do you think it can help my math score?

I'd like to see a 25 math and a 32 composite, but maybe I'm not being realistic.

lanie22--How do you know that about Kansas Qualified Admissions? Where can I get more information about that?
