Very upset and Afraid

I fear that I lack the basic exam skills needed for a decent score in all segments of the ACT. I am actually supposedly very ‘smart,’ but am in fact a poor test-taker. This has been my ‘story,’ all of my life.

Plenty of colleges were test optional before Covid. My bet is that the many that adopted TO because of Covid will stay TO after a vaccine.

I wouldn’t worry or be upset/afraid.

I’m not a naturally good test taker either. I got like a 20 something on the Practice ACT. I didn’t get a ACT tutor and I didn’t practice all summer for a good score. I only took the ACT once and studied literally every free minute I had and took a bunch of practice tests and ended up getting a 35 my first try!! It’s totally possible. Its just a time commitment to practice.

details as to how I finally overcame similar what I may call phobias…as absurd as it may sound, but we actually develop aversively conditioned responses to examinations, or any type of negative outcomes’-stimuli for that matter. The need for a Skinner-ian type of extinction of said maladaptions, is a critical first step in your cognitive re-training processes.
