i just mailed my common application to the PO Box on saturday and the supplement to the pine tree road address.

i sent it through certified mail and i was checking my status for my COMMON APPLICATION online and it said
"We attempted to deliver your item at 8:24 AM on January 3, 2007 in ITHACA, NY 14851 and a notice was left. It can be redelivered or picked up at the Post Office. If the item is unclaimed, it will be returned to the sender."
the supplement seems to have gotten there just fine.

should i be worried that it hasn't gotten picked up yet? and how can there be a notice at PO Box? i'm freaking out right now because they don't seem to have received it...does anyone know what is going on?

thanks

and i've called the admissions office, but they were confusing and said that all the mail comes to them eventually or something?

i did call. as i mentioned above, they were confusing and said something about all the mail comes to them eventually or something?
is there anyone here who knows the inside workings of cornell or whatever?
should i be worrying?

The problem with certified mail is that someone must be available to sign for the letter/package/application. If you sent a certified mail package to a PO box, then, of course, no one was there to sign for the package. That's why the postal service left a note stating that someone has to pick up the package. You should contact admissions, tell them exactly what happened (sent the application via certified mail), and find out whether someone will indeed pick up and sign for the package. If no one will do so, then you need to figure out a way to make other arrangements for them to receive the package (send a copy, perhaps?). I can't imagine why they would have a problem with that if you did meet the original deadline. If no one signs for the package, it will be returned to you once a couple of notes are left for the owner of the PO box.

Best of luck to you in the application process!

Just a note - when sending mail to a PO box, in the future, you might want to consider the Delivery Confirmation service instead. It's something the postal carrier fills out so that no one needs to sign for the package.

not really
i sent my app with all certified mail and it arrived there safely.....
i would try to call the post office tooo!!

should i just overnight a second copy?
