Well, I guess it all depends which grade you’re in, and your gender (I think boy’s percentiles are lower than girls – a girl who scored 600 may be in the 70%, and a boy in the 60%, my figures are of course fictional). I would assume that the person who received a similar score, but in the 80’s percentile would be an incoming ninth grader, and maybe you’re applying to a higher grade?

@jerryps,
Sorry about the bad scores! Ask the schools if you can take the SSAT in February, some schools will let you do that. If they don’t let, I hope it works out for you. Good luck and I hope you have good news March 10th.

Oh snap! Sorry about the scores… Maybe you could get a last minute cheap tutor? Study the prep books? I would try to aim for about an overall 75% +. If you want to reach try for 80%. Definitely need a retest! Good luck!

GLADCHEMMS schools have accepted applicants with scores lower than yours. If you have a lot going for you, other than a test score, you will have a chance. If, however, you are a complete academic, you should probably look at other, less stressful – yet perfectly fine and challenging – schools. There are, no doubt, several dozens of excellent boarding schools, in their own right.

You still have time to register standby for january 8th. Also, there is a handscoring option for $60 if you feel confident that your score should have been higher. Good luck!!

That stinks about math. If someone who only got one wrong got a 94 then no wonder I got a 48…

I am doing a retake. But then they give you the personal score range which ruins my confidence of any improvement. Haha

I just talked to one of my friends today who took the SSAT with me. He is in the same grade as I am. The guy’s raw score was lower than mine, and his percentile is higher than mine. If they don’t take your individual section percentiles into account for your grand percentile, there should be a problem.

My individual scores:
Verbal 677 57th percentile
Math 797 94th percentile
Reading 638 39th percentile
Total 2112 67th percentile

I know these scores aren’t the best, but I think there is something wrong in this.
