My school is know for having the BEST advance math program and math team (Every tournament we participate we either get 1st or 2nd). My school is also really competitive and the AP/Honor classes are not a walk in the park. They are legitimate AP/Honor classes. It just really frustrating when I take the highest and hardest math class and I ended up getting a very very bad grade. When somebody who takes the same class at a different school (lower difficulty) gets an A

AP Bio....

By far the worst class every... Constant work, projects, lab reports, test with 100+ questions, 2-3 reading quizs a week which are impossible to get an A

My AP Bio teacher even bragged about crushing students dreams in doing medicine or anything science....

My question is how the heck do colleges pick out schools with legitimate AP/Honor classes?

They look at scores, and then if they find you interesting they'll read your essays/personal statement. If you think it's that important (the difference between, lets say, a 3.8gpa and 4.0gpa) then have an excerpt about it in your essay/personal statement of why you suffered directly in those classes.

Your school isnt the only competitive school in the country. Other schools are are hard to get As at too. Welcome to the life of a high caliber student

most colleges, based on either reputations or counselor recs, will know which high schools are the most difficult/prestigious.

HOWEVER

more often than not, colleges would not know the differences between two randomly picked schools, so unfortunately, they don't put weight for you, the student who attended a difficult school and got a B.

"My AP Bio teacher even bragged about crushing students dreams in doing medicine or anything science...."

If you have hard evidence of this statement, you must take it to the head of the department or to the school principal. That kind of attitude is unacceptable. Period.

I had an AP Gov class where we had 120 question tests every day for a month. I struggled for low A's but it taught me study skills and how to handle something that is difficult. Don't assume your school is better than others when you have never been there. I'm sure my school isn't as hard as a ton of places out there and i would never use its difficulty as an excuse for my grades. My advice would be to get a 5 on that AP Bio test and prove yourself. Thats what i did with AP Gov...
