Well, the validity and reliability of those scores seem to diminish every year. Just have faith.

Cool, thanks!

wow admindan... i thought you never post on these. and people, im sure they look at everyone as a separate case...

I wish SATs didn't exist.

I second everything said here (including the wish that SATs didn't exist :p).

jaymax -- Definitely take the SATs again. IIRC, a majority of students improve the second time; and like the others said, colleges take your highest score in each section.

Another option is the ACT (usually colleges want it with the Writing section, so keep that in mind).

Upsides: I can't tell you exactly what/how, but the test looks for different things than the SAT does...what I'm trying to say is, it covers more bases. Many people get higher ACT scores than SAT ones. I got a 2120 SAT and a 31 (out of 36) ACT composite, which is close to a 2200 on the SAT scale. That said, there are multiple sections, each of which garners a separate composite on a scale of 1-36, and somehow they're averaged. So, if you're very weak in one of the subjects (I think there are English, Reading, Math, Science, and Writing), a low score can drag down your composite. For example, I got 35s in English and Writing but 25s in Math and Science :-

Downsides: more sections, and a Science one...it's the time limits that usually get people; two of my sections I couldn't finish. Science you have to basically speed-read. I'd definitely suggest taking practice tests beforehand.

I say still apply to JHU (haha, you even had the admissions guy telling you not to give up!). If it's your dream school, it's at least worth applying to. I'm applying to Yale even though I don't have a 2360 like the others applying. shrug Go for it.

Hope this helps, and best of luck!

I hope my other qualities can override my 1720 =(

You may want to take the ACT. My son did much better on that test. If you apply ED, there may not be time. But just a consideration.

I took way too much time studying for the SAT, there is no way I'm gonna study for another test. Besides, I have my IB diploma to work on. I have like 432783049 papers due by Febuary.

Thank you guys for replying and enlightening me on the whole process. I was a bit shaky on the confidence side but now I know more and will apply.

So basically, I skimmed the "college acceptances/rejections and stats" thread and everyone that got into JHU had a good SAT score
I don't even know why I bothered applying.
:(

can't do anything about it now just cross fingers and hope =/

Why do SATs have to be important =(

I have everything else.

Except GPA, that is.

actually, i just found out that JHU doesn't look at freshmen grades and even if they did- i have a good excuse and an upward trend.

actually they look at everything..

Booyakasha

Karl Marks:

Habibi,

The avg SAT for JHU is a 1440/2160. True the ED rate is 48%, but I do't think it's gonna help without a hook. JHU doesn't look at freshman grades, plus you got a good upward trend (though upward trend isn't a huge deal at top schools, but it helps a little). Got a class rank? Sorry, but those SATs are too low, so JHU is a reach, maybe even a big reach.

whoa where did you hear that freshman grades don't count? Maybe you got confused about college freshman year, where the first semester is Pass/Fail. And you don't NEED a hook to get in, although it will obviously help. Plus, SAT scores aren't everything, tinas said it herself, 1440/2160 is the average, meaning 50% of accepted applicants had below that score. You should still apply even if your SAT's are below the average, you never know unless you apply :)

Your SAT score isnt "shameful"... If you tried your best then it cannot be called "shameful" no matter the score

Oh no, lol. I didn't say that, Karl Marks did in response to my stats.
