VERY weird!

okay… I know I’ve asked this question about a million times, and now that I’ve emailed the Brown admissions office… Im lost… heres my email and the reply…

Email…

Dear Sr/Madam,

I am about to apply to Brown this year as a transfer applicant. I am an international student and thus my situation may be a bit odd: The university I am about to attend(as a freshman) did not require SAT Subject Test scores but I took the tests anyway. The thing is, I am not particularly happy with my test scores and feel that they might hurt my chances with Brown. According to the Brown site, I am not required to submit scores if my current university never required them. Can I choose not to send my SAT Subject Test scores?

Thank you,

XXXX YYYYY."

Reply…

"Dear XXXX:

Yes, as a transfer applicant, you may choose not to send in your SAT scores.

Best wishes,

Brown Admission Office"

Does this mean I dont have to send in SATs all together??? or just SATIIs?

Lobzz: Just send in everything man. You only get to apply to Brown once (this maybe true). I would ask you for more stats, like are you an URM in US? But meh… Just apply and cross your fingers.

I know what you mean, man. Its just that I really dont think my scores would “fit in”… I would be at a disadvantage very early in a very difficult process…

bump for more ideas

Its really simple. If your SAT scores are above 1150 combined, send them in. If they are not, do not.

Work on them, but the most important thing is your college grades.

I dont get it. You mean SATI or SATII? I forgot my SATI scores, but they were in the mid-high 1800s, I think… SATIIs were horrible…

I don’t know about your SATII’s but you might still want to turn in your SATI scores. Who knows, not turning them in might hurt you since it could give them the option of assuming you got the absolute worst score, which I’m sure you don’t have.

haha. Definitely not. But good point… I hate how high school is going to haunt me… I had a 2.98-3.0ish and an 1810. I hope and am fairly determined/certain that I can pull off a 3.75+ in college… would it be worth it to apply for sophomore standing??? I have an amazing essay idea and im from an underrepresented country (Egypt). Or should I just wait til im done with my second year and apply for junior standing (really dont want to)… OR I could just apply next year AND the year after?.. any ideas?

Lobzz- I applied as a RUE student (someone who has been out of high school for at least 6 years and does not have a degree). Like you, my high school years were not stellar, and my transcripts from then were included in my application. I took SAT1 and SAT2 tests at the age of 24 for the first time. I also had around a year’s worth of credits on my transcript from a distance education college.

I sent everything, even if it was not required. I think you should do the same. Best of luck.

Forget about SAT and SAT subject tests. Go take the ACT multiple times and send in your best ACT score. The ACT can be taken in lieu of both SAT & Subject tests.

hmmm… but… ACT in college? I was thinking of actually calling them! I really appreciate all the help here though. Thanks.

Calling the ACT office or calling Brown? Here is the ACT website - you can register online. [ACT Registration : Test Dates in the U.S., U.S.Territories, and Canada](<a href=“ACT Registration | ACT Testing Dates | The ACT Test”>ACT Registration | ACT Testing Dates | The ACT Test) Brown will definitely accept the ACT in place of both SAT & SAT subject tests. Doing well (scoring a 32 or higher) will require a bit or practice to become familiar with the test format and for you to be able to work fast enough to finish the science portion of it. Try it - it might be a better test for you than the SAT.

I’ve also considered taking the ACT but would sending a single score from an ACT taken in college without sending in my past SAT scores in high school look suspicious?

Get off my thread!^ haha kidding… I dont man, im in the same predicament.

@Van2010: I’m going to call Brown. I would love to hear them say “dont send in your SATs” ah well… we’ll see.

I did not take the SAT and was accepted to Brown with only the ACT. Also sent in my subject test scores because they were high.
