Veteran-friendly colleges

Can anyone recommend colleges / universities that are especially friendly to vets in their mid-20s? I am wondering about colleges that are receptive to accepting credits from previous college and miltary experience, working wtih vets to transition from military life back to school, and student bodies and professors / administrators that aren't hostile to the military.

Northeastern University in Boston:

Any of the participants in the Yellow Ribbon program would probably do. You also could ask this question in the Veterans Forum. Look for it inside the Admissions Forum.

Good luck!

To be frank Northeastern doesn’t provide that much help to Veterans, at least at face value. There are very few Veterans on campus and the administration doesn’t seem to know exactly how to deal with them. That said, they definitely WANT to be veteran friendly and seem to be getting things going. The Student Veterans organization recently started up and has done a lot. In a nutshell, chose Northeastern because of its academics/intangibles, not because of its veteran support. If you want anymore info PM me.

Try looking at Umass Amherst BDIC program. My brother currently attends and they transfered in 2 years worth of credit for him. If you want to go into engineering more or less the schools give you no credit (as I found) due to ABET requirements.

Check into the colleges in the University of North Carolina system. NC has some large military bases so the NC colleges are pretty military friendly. My son is active duty Navy and is taking an online class through East Carolina University this semester. He will be able to complete his entire Masters degree online. I think NC State is very vet friendly too.

Columbia’s School of General Studies was created specifically for returning veterans after World War II, and it still has a lot of veterans. According to them, the Post 9/11 GI Bill at the 100% rate + Yellow Ribbon program grants + financial aid covers the full cost of tuition for GS.
