Veteran Parent will try to answer your questions!

Hi all! It’s an exciting time-especially if your son or daughter is heading off to Notre Dame this fall!

As a veteran ND parent, I am happy to help with any questions you might have~
My daughter graduated from ND in 2011. She was a Pre-med and Music major and just graduated from med school this past May! I currently have a son, who is a rising junior majoring in Chemical engineering. As parents, we have loved having our kids at ND. It is a special four years and truly life-changing! My husband and I are also alums, so it’s a life-long love for us~

Feel free to ask anything and pm me if you would rather.

My daughter is starting at ND this fall and planning to major in chemical engineering. How has the major been for your son? Has he been able to find an internship in chem e?

Thanks Irishcali. My son will be starting at ND in a few weeks. We are so excited. I have heard that parents of ND students can receive guaranteed tickets for one football game each year. Can you explain how that process works?

@twinspapa I believe an email was sent out about that already. I just checked my email and it was received July 9. I’d call the school’s athletic office and see if tickets are still available. NOTE: As I found out, it is almost impossible to find a hotel nearby that is reasonable or even available for home football game weekends.

I agree with suzy100: if you want a room at a hotel, you need to book mid summer.

Hi all! Yes, parents DO get tickets to one or two games if they would like. Hotels are nearly impossible to get, but you can go further away and have some luck.

My son has found the Chem Eng. to be challenging, but interesting. He has had to work and study more than he ever did in high school, but has said that the material is great. Most of the professors have been great too and all are available for help. There is a solid “work together” atmosphere at ND that helps. The students do work together and form study sessions to get through. (Love that!) He worked on campus this summer, so he chose not to do an internship, but will do one next summer for sure. There are a lot out there.

Enjoy this weekend! It is the best! Parent note…pick a place on campus and take your son/daughter’s picture. Then return there on graduation weekend and take more…we did that with our daughter and just love them! Enjoy the ride! Frosh-O is great! The helpers will do all the carrying for you!!! Go Irish!
