Veteran to Student

Hi! I’m currently enlisted in the Navy, and I’ll be separating soon. I was wondering if my status as a Veteran would increase my chances of being accepted to the University of Miami. It’s been my dream to attend this school since forever, but my GPA and SAT scores from high school didn’t support that dream unfortunately. I’ll be able to retake the SAT, but I won’t be able to redo high school, so I’m hoping that this could boost my chances. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Need more info… EC’s? GPA? High school courses? Service hours? Come on, how is anyone supposed to answer to that short paragraph.

I think your veteran status could help. I would call admissions to find out if I were you. Military vets often have advantages that are not well published.

MakeItMiddlebury, I simply want to know if my Veteran status will help me with college admissions. I don’t understand how the other stuff pertains to that, but if you insist:
-No ECs
-Exactly 3.0 unweighted GPA
-AP/Honors Program throughout High school
-Logged 400 volunteer hours through a hospital during my Junior and Senior years

Okay then… if you are putting it on your application it matters. GPA is at the lower end of applications, but those service hours do look nice. Being a veteran should help to. It is a possibility you could get in, good luck to you!
