Is there such a thing in the UC admission process? I am especially curious about UCB and UCLA. Any vets on here who got admitted? If so, what were your stats?

I’m sure it will certainly help to have that experience to write about in your application.

Best of luck.

Yes there is a vetrans priority. Just talk to your counselor, i believe in the actual UC App it asks you if you have served in the armed forces. People like you are valuable to the school because their expenses are virtually paid for by the VA program.

I’m not a veteran, but my father was. So I’m a dependent, so I receive his benefits.

I actually wanted to ask any veterans or dependents who transferred already. How did it go registering for their first semester since were suppose to get first day registration as we do at our CC’s.

There is a veteran’s priority for signing up for classes at UCB. I don’t think there is a priority for dependents. I don’t think they get a priority when applying for admission, but I’m sure it looks good on the application and gives you a nice little bump in chances. I’m a veteran.

I was admitted to UCLA and UCB. I had a 3.86 when I applied. No extra curriculars and no TAP. Of course I applied to Poli Sci, which really isn’t that competitive.

I know for classes there is priority as I have it at my CCC and my counselor told me I would have once I transfer.

But I wanted to know when you registered for your first semester at a UC how did it go getting classes were you given a early registration or something?

For your first semester you can’t register until after your CalSo, but you do get priority enrollment for phase two which began July 16th this year. You just need to send in your DD-214, and you will get first crack at classes when phase II of telebears begins.

Thanks Dem Bones

I’m transferring to UCSC and it was pretty much the same for me in the registration process. All of the continuing students had already been able to register for a good while, but I was allowed to register before the new transfer students and new freshmen attending orientation. For subsequent quarters, I’ll be able to register before all of the continuing students due to the priority enrollment for veterans.

I don’t know of any particular advantage that was given during the application process, but they do ask and the application essay gives you an opportunity to discuss it to your advantage. I can’t speak for the admissions statistics as I’m a film major and didn’t want to bother with the recommendation letters and portfolio needed to apply to UCLA. Also, screw Berkeley. So, it’s Santa Cruz for me and I’ll save ambition for the graduate work.

For UCLA, this priority comes after your first quarter… VA kept on saying “you get priority, you get priority”, but when I called admissions, the rep. said it comes next year.
