Junior year, I made a video for an english project in which we had to make a video with a voice over of a common app -type-essay I wrote.

When I talked to my teacher the other day, she mentioned that other people had sent their videos in to replace their essay. Is this an idea I should consider, since the video contains the voiceover of my essay?

I’ve never heard of this before, but I’ll try to give you the best advice I can.

If I were you, I would start the common app essay with something like “A link to a video containing narration of the essay is included in the additional information section.” Then TYPE out your essay below. Even if it’s in the video, I think adcoms would prefer to see it in print as well to verify writing style, grammar, spelling, etc. Then in the additional info section, post a link.

I don’t think the video should replace the essay, but it can certainly supplement it.
