Hello all - S is thinking about applying via video to OCU - does anyone have stats as to how acceptances compare from in-person to Get Accept’d auditions? We’re trying to save a trip and it seems to be a viable option, just making sure. Thanks!
@quinoamom206 I was wondering the same thing. Didn’t want to spend another $130 to apply if acceptance rates for video auditions is minimal in comparison.
@quinoamom206, my D is currently a freshman MT major at OCU. She auditioned via video but I believe she was the only one in her class who did so. Based on that, the odds aren’t great comparing video to live audition results.
@quinoamom206 - Our D is a sophomore MT at OCU and similar to @ocumom18 - I know of one person in the sophomore class who auditioned by video and was accepted. I have no idea how many actually submitted videos. So it does happen but not sure the odds of acceptance. I do think auditioning live is best. But if you can’t make it in person, I think it is worth submitting if it is a program you are interested in.
@ocumom18 and @vvnstar, good to know. Will check in with admissions - my S has a friend in Freshman class who thinks there are several MT video acceptances, but will have to confirm with someone official. BaL to all!
@quinoamom206 I’m chiming in late, but another thing your S could do is apply to several majors as there are several routes to becoming a triple threat. If he is strong vocally, he could apply to both MT and Vocal Performance and even BFA Acting and then take the performance option with voice and dance for BFA acting. All the best to you and your S.
Hello! I just wanted to say that I am a Freshman Music THeatre/ Vocal Performance double major at OCU and I know at least 4 members of our class sent in videos.
@Hawayne18 thx for sharing! S will be filming videos soon… how is it as a double major? isn’t the single BM crazy intense? Just curious how that works out, but hope you’re loving it…
I am curious too; just asked the question on a different thread, about video auditions v live; but my D is thinking of a double major and from what we’ve heard it’s too intense.
Some kids in my D’s class who started out as double majors recently chose during sophomore year to drop one major because the time commitment for each is so significant. 2 of her friends dropped MT this semester and will be only VP majors as they start their junior year. They both have fallen in love with opera and are pursuing that career path instead of MT! Of course, there may be some who do persevere and graduate with a double major. But it is a lot of work! And there are many who do only MT.
Hi. My D is currently freshman double VP/ MT. Knows several other freshman who are also doubles but many
fewer upperclassmen. Though there is at least one junior. So yes potentially doable but crazy and
most do end up with only one major.
BTW she absolutely loves the school!!
My D was accepted this year via video audition. We recently went to visit the school … absolutely wonderful. While there the Director said he doesn’t prefer the video audition and it’s harder to get in with that … he suggested that it’s a little easier if you send the video in the Fall and not after they have seen a lot of live auditions. They accept students all along the way - based on talent and not numbers. Numbers in the programs vary from year to year. He said once they start seeing the students live, the videos don’t compare … you really have to show a spark on that video. I feel lucky my D was accepted this way. Knowing what the school is like, I would have spent the money going there for a live audition rather than to the other schools we visited. Their facilities are great, students are great, faculty/admin are great … the whole school seems to revolve around the Music/Dance programs. I am excited my D has this opportunity.
@japbmom How long did it take you to hear back? I submitted my video audition March 3 and still havent heard back. I’m wondering if I should contact them about it…?
@gmo913 … She sent her video audition in the Fall … probably October or November at the latest. We heard back early February.

Anyone audition this year via website? We did last week of auditions on 3/4. It states 4-6 weeks before we will hear anything. And yes, we haven’t been told anything yet.
D sent video in late Jan/early Feb. and we haven’t heard anything either.
That’s very disheartening to hear. I was worried it was a money maker on their part and not authentic. It clearly states to not contact them, but at some point there should be communication it’s at least been reviewed. My D was really hoping to hear from them.
I wouldn’t read too much into not hearing anything yet, guys! If you check out this year’s MT acceptance thread, not many have received offers from OCU. I think they are later than usual sending results this year. Honestly, I cannot imagine OCU using this as some sort of money maker; actually a video prescreen (which they do not do) would serve that purpose much better. I think they leave this option open realizing that not everyone can manage or afford an in person audition. Just my opinion based on any dealings we have had with them…
Thanks @dramasopranomom . I guess I should have read what I wrote before posting. YIKES! What I said sounded negative in connotation. All the online auditions making $$ (not just OKCU) was a thought of mine when we began these uncharted waters of auditions. I didn’t know if that would really work or not. Then, hearing about how someone had not been contacted made me sad for those that spent the money and time to get a pianist to tape live auditions and then to not hear anything in the timeframe was my point I guess. I was clueless with all of this and am getting more well-rehearsed. LOL It’s so hard waiting, then waiting too late where you don’t have time to visit the colleges before making decisions is tough… so the sooner the better for everyone Good luck to all the online auditionees!!! Hopefully we will hear something soon and they will be positive notes here! Love to all!
