Video Game Art/Animation:SCAD, Ringling or ?????

Hello I am yet another college student stuck trying to find info about Art Schools. SCAD would be my main choice (I live in Georgia). I am looking for Video Gaming Artist and Animators that will help me in anyway find more info on the art colleges and which is better (in your opinion). I was considering a CS degree but am horrible at the maths (currently struggling in Pre-Calculus). Please reply ASAP and be free to message me personally. The more help the merrier.

Hi check out Drexel’s offering in that area:

You would be interested in the BS in Game Arts and Production. If you click through you can find a degree requirements page and see if it suits your needs. Appears to be 1 math requirement and 1 CS requirement.

Unfortunately, Drexel is both out of state and far away from home. Thanks for the info though!

I may be able to help you. I’m an artist who’s also an adult, who is back at school full time getting my studio art degree.

I also live in Georgia, so I get that you want to stay in state. I’m assuming you’ll qualify for the HOPE scholarship?

Some words of warning about SCAD-their debt on graduation rates are very, very high.

I think what you are looking for is a digital art degree rather than a bs in game design because you want to come at it from the art angle rather than the CS angle (I have a husband and daughter in CS so I’m familiar with that major).

This is a good place to start:

At Georgia Southern they have a Bachelor of Arts in 4D:

If you want to get into the art program, you will need an art/design portfolio to submit with your college application. If this seems like something that you would not be able to create, you need to reconsider coming at the game design from an art perspective-you need to be able to produce work in a visual medium that you can show during your interview. If you are better at math than drawing, go for the BS in game design.

If you wanted to shoot for game design with a BS, here is Kennesaw State’s program:

It does have precalculus and then you have some discrete math, but it is not as math-intensive as you may have thought.

I really wanted something video game focused. I have looked at Kennesaw State. The core classes require Calculus. I really want to do more searching with SCAD. I am fully aware about the debt situation. I also know someone that got out of SCAD debt free because of her trasfer credits and scholarships.

I will look into Georgia Southern. I am not to sure about a Art degree from a academic school.
