Is it a good thing or a bad thing to include in your essay that you have friends that play video games or that you play video games?

Not at all, why would it be? Just make sure your essay DOES NOT depicts you as a hardcore gamer who cares more about his games than his studies.

I'm sure it's been said before, but a great writer can turn any topic into an awesome essay. I've heard that one of the best college admission essay was about a Chipotle burrito.

Hahah, well, if you go to Youtube you can see a video of someone playing DDR for his Vassar application. It was for a section called "your space" where they encourage you to send in something cool about yourself. From what I understand, he was accepted!

So now, becareful that it isn't cliche...since it's been done...see the post above.

ya i had the impression that it was a bad thing to do

It isn't a bad thing if you can portray it in a way that you want to.

Actually, it depends on how effectively you can communicate the theme or main idea of an essay that has video games as a topic--without being cliched.

ok thanks all

It really depends on your prompt and what you are writing about.
