Villa-no-chance?

Hellllooo, here we go...

I am a hispanic female from Michigan...really I am only about 1/3 hispanic, but I look it, and I am hoping it will give me a small boost in the admissions process.

ACT-28, retaking, also taking the SAT in october (the science portion is what killed me, so I am hoping for a better score on the SAT)
GPA 3.4 (however my freshman year art grade of a C- is being discussed in the counselors office, if its turned into an A I will be up around 3.58)

I am the president of my class, the student senate, and a community service org. at school. From what I hear Villanova likes a service orriented person, and that is exactly what I am.

I have been to at least 6 leadership camps/seminars/week long events as a rep from my school

I am very involved in choir, led a huge community outreach program this year, ect.

EC's im not worried about...
I should get very good recs and my essays are coming along nicely

Do I have a shot? How about if I apply early??
Thanks!

You have a good chance at acceptance. Villanova loves people who are involved with their school. Also, play the hispanic role because Villanova is in desperate need of diversity. It is all upper-class white kids, except of course for the sports teams. But that should not bother you because everyone is accepted here.

Thank you for your help, do you have any advice for the admissions process, or anything you want to share about Villanova?

Villanova wants the most well rounded students they can find. A perfect score on your SAT and a 4.0 GPA will not get you in! You need to be involved not only in you school's clubs and sports, but with your community. My suggestion would be to write an essay about something you have done to help society or improve the life of others. Make sure you show your values in your essay. If you have any more specific questions just ask, I would be glad to help.

Heyy.. I apologize to be stealing this thread, but I have yet to figure out how to start my own... I'd like to post my stats here to see what you guys think about my chances as well.. thanks a bunch!

White, Catholic female from NJ looking to be a bio or chem major/ on pre-med track
Rank: 6/278 in very competitve high school
GPA- 4.3ish
Most rigorous courses (all Honors, AP, or accelerated sequence) and only one B entire HS career
AP's: Bio, Chem, English, Spanish, European History

SATs- 610M, 610V, 710W (re-taking in Oct. w/ studying)

EC's- Track (9- JV letter), Newspaper (9, 12), NHS (11,12), Peer Development Leader (11, 12), Spanish teacher for 3rd and fourth graders at local elementary schools (11, 12), Spanish NHS (10, 11, 12), History Club (11, 12- Director of Fundraising and organizing fundraiser for US veterans and to assist New Orleans), Assistant CCD teacher (11, 12), Junior Volunteer at local hospital (10,11, 12- 100+ hours; named "star volunteer"), Band (9, 10, 11- participated in competition in Toronto. One of four saxes distinguished), and in 11th grade I was chosen to interview war veterans for the library of Congress.

I'm looking to shadow a doctor this year and possibly be elected president of my school's Spanish NHS

I have won various awards for academic excellence, excellence in Spanish, and have been on the Principal's Scholars Honor Roll (GPA of 4.0+) every marking period of HS career. I recieved advanced proficient (highest level) in all subjects of NJ's HSPA test.

I am also an immigrant from a previously Communist nation in Eastern Europe. I have lived in Albania and Italy before I came to the US at the age of 5. I am fluent in Albanian and English, and can understand and speak a good deal of Italian (planning to study abroad during college to become fluent once more). I also travel frequently, and have spent summers in Italy residing in a Byzantine Catholic Monastic community near Rome (my family is extremely close to the abbott of this order).

I am applying to Villanova EA because I looove it! Do you think I have a good shot? Could I possibly be considered for the Scholarship for Underrepresented Students?

I think that you have a great chance to get into Nova. I think that your only weakness are you SAT scores, right now I would say that you could most likely get into the Nuring College or the Arts and Science College. The other school, mainly the Business schools, are really hard to get into now. I think that if you improve you SATs you can easily get in through Early Action. I would love to answer any other questions that you may have above Nova, just let me know!! Good luck.

Yeah, I've been working really hard to raise my SAT scores this summer, and I'm aiming for around a 2100. With the higher SAT scores, do you think Villanova would be a match? As you're a student there, how do you like it? How are your classes, professors, and fellow students? Is it a fun campus?

Yes, higher SAT scores and you will have no problems getting in!!

I have been here now for 2 weeks. I love it here! My dorm is so much more than I expected, it is much nicer than most other colleges. I have 5 classes this semester. Three classes on Monday and Tuesday, two on Wednesday and Thursday and only one on Friday! So far my classes are great and they are all very interesting. The professors are very energetic and interesting. Everyone here is so friendly it is amazing. As for fun, there is not lack of fun! Many students are having a little too much fun if you know what I mean! I know that sporting events like basketball and football are very fun to attend, but they have yet to start. If there are any other question that you want answered just let me know!!

I'm just curious.. what other schools did you apply to and why did you ultimately choose Villanova? Thanks so much for all your help and insight!!

Hey I have a pretty random question... I'm currently enrolled in AP Bio and HATE it because the teacher is horrible. As I want to be a science major (either bio, chem, or biochem), I know this would be a useful course to take, yet I truly think it is a waste of time. I was offered the opportunity to TA an Honors Biology class if I drop the AP Bio.. what do you guys think about that? Should I TA or stick with the AP classs?

I would also like to add that even after dropping AP Bio, I would still be taking my school's highly rigorous Honors Biochemistry class so it's not like I will not be taking a science class...

Hey how it goes...

I am a white male from Northern New Jersey and I attend a highly competetive catholic high school. Since my high school is so competetive our guidance department doesn't give us exact class ranks but I am in the top 20% of my class.

GPA unweighted: 3.82
GPA weighted: 4.04

SAT: 1180 (what a disgrace) M: 600 V: 580
I have always struggles on standardized tests..

I take the most challenging courses my school has to offer. I am in three honors and one AP.

Humanities Honors
Spanish IV Honors
Calculus Honors
AP Statistics

Probably the best part of my resumee are my ec's

Junior Statesmen of America(Debate Club) 9, 10, 11, 12
Stock Market Club (Vice president) 9, 10, 11, 12
Eucharistic Minister: only 12 (you must be 18 to be eligible for this)
Varsity Football: 9, 10, 11, 12 (three varsity letters earned as well as 2004 New Jersey State Championship)
Youth Basketball Coach(community service) 10, 11, 12 (assistant head coach)
Working at a food kitchen: 11, 12
National Honor Society: 11, 12
Spanish National Honor Society: 12
First Honors or Principal's List every marking period throughout high school career.

I am applying to college of commerce and finance. What are my chances considering my abysmal SAT scores?

you are in. who would be so stupid as to get REJECTED OR DEFERRED BY VILLANOVA? youd have to be a real loser.
