Hey guys, I’m going to be living in Aubie in the village next year and I was wondering if anyone that has already lived there knows how they decide who gets which bedroom. Is it alphabetically or based on the order you show up or what? My roommates and I are trying to figure out which ones of us may possibly be sharing a bathroom. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Auburn gives you the apartment assignment…you select the actual bedroom you want when you arrive. First come first serve. All the rooms in the Village are very similiar but the two outside rooms are slightly bigger. Move in day was well organized last year but VERY hot…good luck and welcome to Auburn

Thank you so much! That was exactly what I needed to know! I would prefer one of the end rooms just because I’m a super light sleeper and don’t want to be by the living area/kitchen if possible. So I guess I’ll try to get there first. Haha.

Our child was in Aubie freshman year 1 st floor handicapped room. If you are first floor and in one of these the configuration is different - look at the online floor plan. Yes, placement was based on arrival and there was not anyone handicapped in her room. The handicapped side did not have the outside sink area. It was in the bathroom with the shower.

Yikes. I never even considered the chances of being put in a handicapped room. Although I would imagine the odds of that are pretty slim. And someone told me the Iraq floor was guys only. That may have changed though. Does anyone know how move in works? My roommates and I all have the same move in time (except the one that is rushing), so will everyone on our floor be moving in at that time or is it spread out?

Usually, everyone within the suite is given the same move-in time. Last year, this process went very, very smoothly. If you need to change your move-in time, you can contact housing and make the necessary changes. There are a multitude of volunteers and housing employees who assist you during move-in. They will even help you unload your car, load belongings on hand carts, and haul them up to you your suite. One thing I do remember however that may contradict what some other posters have stated, my D was assigned a particular room in the suite, it wasn’t just “pick your own room”. Of course, this situation is obviously different if you have made specific requests. My D’s group all were totally “pot luck” meaning they left it up to housing to make the roommate choices etc.

Hmm. I wonder if that’s how mine will be then. We are completely pot luck as well. Oh well, I guess I will find out when I show up on move in day!

Okay, I was partially incorrect about the rooms being completely assigned – her situation ended up with the rooms being “assigned” as a result of some of the roommates being there early.
Do you have any roommates that are going through Rush? They’ll arrive a week early, (as do band members) and they will be able to tell you which suite you’re in and which side of the suite you may get. Evidently, the whole process is pretty loose. D says that between your group, you should decide who wants to share bathrooms before you arrive. This at least gives you some idea of who will be next door to you. If one person gets there early for Rush, this person may be asked if she knows with whom she will be sharing a bathroom – she then may get to pick which side of the suite she wants and which room. At this point, her fellow bathroom user will get the other room on that side. The other two folks automatically get the other side. D said this was how things worked out for her group; others just decided things when they got there, and others were just given a key to a room by the RAs – if they weren’t happy with it and someone in the suite was willing to switch, then they worked it out amongst the group.
Like I said, it was rather loose.

One of my suitemates is rushing, so I guess she will get first pick. I will talk to my suitemates and see if they want to go ahead and pair up or wait until move in day and see what happens. I personally would rather do it now, but I’ll have to see what they say… Thanks for all the info!

Don’t live at Cambridge. You can get a better deal elsewhere. It’s expensive for a single room with a shared bath, the food is AWFUL, and the AC doesn’t always work…big problem in this southern climate. Management stinks too.
