Villanova '12 Early Action Decision Thread

I didnt mean it like that--Tufts Syndrome--People using top schools (but not top-top i.e. Nova, Tufts, Brandeis, Emory, etc.) as safeties. Schools are now rejecting or deferring kids who seem to have no interest in attending.

Villanova is a good school, but not sure it belongs in the same category as Tufts or Emory. And pretty sure they aren't rejecting applicant for being too good. It is never about the STATS...we get hooked by them and believe if we are in the range we are in...but schools like Villanove get thousands of applications from kids whose stats are "in the range". Every school tells you they look at more than test scores. Were you a leader in activities? what kind of community service did you do? Where do you come from? Where do you rank in terms of other kids from your school who applied? Etc, etc, etc...

kyao281990 and abgunner5: did you guys visit/show interest?

Wow, congrats guys...i had no idea that Nova was this competitive...

im around 45 minutes from Villanova, and i visited the campus around thanksgiving. i guess ive showed some interest, ive emailed the admissions office and stuff. think i should get in regular?

I think so .. I'm really suprised you were deferred.

Anyone know when RD will find out about the Presidential Scholarship candidacy? Also, I am concerned about the "show interest" part here. We decided we wouldn't go visit unless it became a serious contender(with scholarships). A VN rep came to our school and I went to talk to him to show interest and see what other info I could get besides what is on the website. Once the guy found out I had already submitted my application, he said there was really nothing he could tell me if I liked it enough to submit an app! I did make a point to sign his interest sheet. Do you think that was enough? The guy really turned me off, though. I was disappointed. It's not like there was anyone else interested in VN at the fair!

Just found out today in the mail:

I can't find it anywhere on the Pres. Scholarship criteria that you had to go EA....I DID find, however, on that criteria page:

Invitations. All applicants to the University who meet the above criteria are invited in mid-January to submit an additional application for the scholarship.

So, it does say ALL applicants, as long as your app materials were in on time. I guess I am still good!

hey all. i am currently a freshman at nova (and love it!). i was deferred and then waitlisted last year and was going through the same thing that all of you are. a lot of you seem to be asking questions as to how you can show interest...
well, what i did.... made phone calls often, wrote them numerous letters, postcards, etc. had teachers and other faculty (including my principal) send other letters.
keep in contact with them, it really helps!

Don't think my D would mind me sharing

Presidential Scholarship consideration deadline - November 1

Admission Important Dates

They mentioned this many times at the open house that I attended.

Also, the deadline for the application is January 18th -- as in, everything must be received by this date.

I did get all my materials in by Nov. 1, just didn't go EA as I wasn't sure if that committed me or not. But all my app stuff was in before 11/1, so it sounds like I should be fine.
