Is it true that there are much higher standards to get into VSB vs school of arts and sciences. And is it true that 99% of merit aid avaiable is given to those accpeted EA vs regular? (I think many of us are in the same boat…hopeful for Nova, but sitting on really nice scholarships from schools just a tiny notch below)

I have definitely heard that it is much much more difficult to get accepted to VSB than A&S, and in fact, that is why I opted to apply to A&S. I have not heard that about merit aid, but it makes sense. Yes, I have a handsome academic scholarship to another Catholic college farther down the line from Nova, but it’s just not where I want to be…

We don’t qualify for FA but S was already offered $7/year at a Jesuit university, and awards of $14k/y and $13/y, respectively, at two great LACs. I hope Villanova offers him SOMETHING to ease the burden He’s applying to A&S and really wants to go to 'Nova, but I’d like it if they’d show some love.

LACs?

I hear you . We are sitting on 20K per year from 2 Catholic schools and “honors programs” at each (not sure what that actually buys you in the long run) . This will be at least a $100K delta over 4 years if Nova doesnt do merit, and I simply hear from all around not to get my hopes up . The Tier I schools (BC, GT, Nova) all seem to have plenty of parents willing to line up and open the checkbook for the full bill

Don’t even hold your breath for merit.

readytphear–“LACs” means liberal arts colleges.

Ah. Thanks!

Its tough to pay full boat at nova when offered decent merit money from other schools that are near same ranking as nova

It is. But honestly it’s just where I feel that “fit”…the place that feels like my destiny. I’m so worried about having to go somewhere that doesn’t give me that vibe.

We are a family of that struggles greatly financially and I’m sending my third (and final) to college. My middle boy chose Villanova over schools that gave us more money because of that intangible sort of feeling. None of us regrets it, even with the financial hardship. Villanova is wonderful, my daughter is waiting to hear back from St. Joes (decisions sent out today!) and Villanova. She’s already been accepted to Drexel. I would love to have 2 at Villanova!

Already accepted to st joes with a very nice merit award. I wish I wanted to go there.

It was 30 years ago, and I was forced to go to my 6th choice out of six, due to economics. I remember very well when I was told "you choose your happiness , and the lens you look at today with " bascially, these kids all have GREAT choices, as I did too. Your passion can be right in front of you , if you are willing to embrace the present

Those are wise words. I guess I am not mature enough to find much comfort in them right now.

are decisions officially coming out on the 19th or is this just a rumored date? I was deferred EA and I’ve been dying to find out!

i have not heard the 19th from anywhere. That would be early relatively to recent years in the mid 20 somethings of March to announce, And seems like all schools are running late this year

See above. Someone was at nova this week and and admissions person told them 19/20.

In response to the thing about only highly-qualified people with super high SAT scores getting accepted EA - not sure how true that is. I got into Nova EA with a 1980 and a 94 GPA, so they must really look at other things too. Good luck everyone!

This year?

Yes, for the class of 2018.
