Villanova business vs georgetown business

Which school has a better business program? I'm planning on majoring in finance, so which school would be better for me? Which one trumps the other in 1. education 2. prestige 3. a fun social scene 4. quality of life. please feel free to add anything else

business week ranks villanova business better than georgetown. If you want to simply go off rankings then there is your result. However, you should look much deeper into both schools. From personal experience with both gtown and VU I would say when all is said and done each program can get you good internships and good job opportunities. VU will give philly connections and gtown will give dc connections.

education…business education is a toss up. I think both bus. programs are comparable.

prestige. Gtown has a bigger name but it is mainly known for politics and law (bill clinton probably reinforced this image). I know kids at gtown who do pre-med or biz and they are looked down upon. Gtown’s main program is the school of foreign service and thats their main focus and name recognition. Employers will know VU outside of philly but your “average” person will know gtown more so than villanova.

I think VU’s campus is much nicer than gtown’s. Both schools are located in residential areas with little to do in the immediate periphery. GTown has no metro stop but you are a short bike ride or cab ride away from the bars and social scene in the georgetown neighborhood of DC. Villanova is in a suburb with not much at all. You are a cab ride or a bike ride away from a few bars, restaurants, and starbucks. But not that much. Both schools have a rather low key party scene.

Gtown is urban, dense, hustle bustle…VU is suburban, trees, calmer…both hav a lot of school pride. Both are huge basketball schools and maintain an intense rivalry on the court.

My verdict: for politics, law, or just a general education I woul pick gtown.
For pre-med I would be slightly more inclined to go to gtown.
for biz i think the education is a toss up and i would let other factors influence my decision.

have u already been accepted to both or are you just now applying?

Thank you so much! that was really helpful. I’m applying to both these schools and have visited both. I know that georgetown is seen as the “better” school but I know that Villanova has a really strong business program. This was really helpful and answered just about all of my questions. Thanks!

If one school really reasonates over the other go with it. In the big picture it’s not where the diploma came from so much as the person who has the diploma.

Kind of like a pair of expensive jeans. They are only as look as good as the person who wears them looks. It’s up you too to make your self employeable. Both are great programs.

Also keep in mind the selectivity of both schools, particularly Georgetown. My DS has visited both and felt intimated by the admissions presentation at GU. He’s a good student taking a ton of APs but has Bs on transcript from freshman year. Left GU feeling he’d never get in. And he felt the GU campus was too jam packed with buildings versus Villanova’s suburban campus.
