My son was deferred. He applied to business school with a 3.6 GPA and 34 superscore ACT. He went to a top Catholic school in NYC area and had all honors classes with 2 APs and also very strong activities and sports. We thought he had a chance at ED, but it’s so hard to get into business school. Luckily, he’s been accepted to 5 other schools through EA. Best of luck to everyone!

Applied ED in October
Hey! Does anyone know of a group for accepted students?
@jimmym just curious, is the 3.6 GPA weighted? Did he have a lot of B’s? Because the score and the rest of the application is so strong, I’m a little confused by his being deferred. I would say he has a good chance RD. Or maybe a lot of kids from his school applied?
@collegemomjam - It’s not weighted.
We always heard the SOB is just harder to get into. 3 kids from his school did ED and none got in. Oh well, onward and upward, but I would guess that if you can’t get in ED, it must be harder to get in RD, although we will see. I also point out that since ED is relatively new at Villanova, it’s hard to get reliable data on the acceptance percent.
@jimmym Don’t count VU out yet! My daughter was deferred last year during the EA and was accepted in March with a very generous scholarship. A deferral can be a good sign because they do flat out reject people in this rounds. SOB and Nursing are two of the hardest to get into so I believe they are very tight on who they accept in this first round. Best of luck for the outcome that you are hoping for! (My deferred daughter finishes her first semester of nursing school at VU tomorrow at 5 and flies home)!
is anyone playing sports on this post @ VU? If so what?

I forgot to mention I am also Hispanic
Thanks @Nursesmom for kind words
I have been following Villanova for years and I do think they definitely give their deferred applicants a full and fair review during the RD round. I know a lot of kids that have gotten in RD that were deferred.
With that said, as you point out @JimmyM this is only their second year with both options (ED and EA) and you would think it’s easier ED than RD. However, if you have a solid first semester that could really help (maybe they are just looking to see grades?), or the chance to update them with additional accomplishment.
SOB is much harder at Villanova for sure. If your heart is set on the school, would you consider asking them to switch you to liberal arts? They have a business minor and summer program you could participate in. They might allow you to do this. They may cap their SOB class size, not sure.
Good luck!

@Nursesmom can you expand on the scholarship award? When do they notify students of scholarships. Did she apply separately or was she automatically considered? Thank you.

Thanks @collegemomjam - your post directly hits on our main question now - does a kid that was deferred from ED at Villanova have a reasonable chance at RD?
The problem with being deferred is that my son now has to wait until April, and I have to believe his percentage chance at acceptance has been reduced. My son purposely applied Nova ED and rest EA, so he can wrap this up early. Now he is into 6 other schools and has to wait about 4 more months…URGH!
@jimmym how frustrating. Ugh.
The reason I think he has a reasonable chance is because they didn’t reject him (don’t they do that now?? I thought they started rejecting during the early round now but I’m not sure?).
I also think a lot of this is going to depend on their RD pool which is still trickling in. They may not get the volume of RD applicants or quality of applicants, we really don’t know.
There are so many unknowns. I’m glad he has his eggs in other baskets. Hopefully the winter will go by quickly for him (and you!). Keep us posted.
@Nursesmom - So, VU gives out scholarships with acceptances? I didn’t know that. I hope that’s the case with my D. Congrats!!
Would love to know this too!!
