To add on to previous message–happy that S was accepted, but if he didn’t get an honors invitation, I’m less confident about any merit money and the school is very expensive!
S deferred VBS, 34 ACT, 4.21 WGPA, very good EC with leadership, average essay
Accepted EA in Astronomy & Astrophysics

It’s killing me!!!
Any nursing students getting accepted ?
Thought my D had a gd chance of acceptance, but seeing these stats that are getting deferred -Yikes!!
Has anyone received an Honors invitation in their EA acceptance?

Little surprised my daughter didn’t get in.
my son got in! 34 ACT and 99 average in classes all 4 years, with a ton of AP classes taken.
this is my second go round with the college application (did it 2 years ago with daughter). the one thing I can say is don’t panic if you got deferred from a school EA and you think you well surpassed the criteria (using naviance or other college tool). colleges do not take a lot from any one school during EA - a lot of times its only one spot per school. This can be easily taken if someone else from your school got in - whether due to sports or due to being a legacy. if that is the case for you, take a breath, don’t worry, and I am sure you will get in during the regular app process.
happened to my daughter at BC. we couldn’t believe she got deferred during EA. then during reg admission, she was accepted and told she was in the top 5% of all applicants. if she was in the top 5% how did she get deferred? another student from her school got in during EA running track.
it sucks to get deferred, but not the end of the world or hopeless, especially when you know the rules with EA.
good luck all.
D accepted to Arts and Sciences. 1500 SAT, 3.75 UW GPA. Many AP and Honors courses, few EC, great essay.
@fall2018 Did your daughter ever check her portal?
Deferred
SAT 1480
GPA 4.0
9 AP Classes(Chem, Bio, etc)
8 Honors Classes
2 Varsity Sports
Not sure if this has been said or not yet but a few people seem to be surprised they were deferred, rightfully so as there are a lot of great stats out there. But keep in mind Villanova added ED this year so they took some people that round that were sure things. Makes sense to see more deferrals maybe than usual for this reason because in the past those ED people would have been in the EA round and we would see more acceptances on this thread. But I do think unlike some other schools many deferred kids get in during the RD round from Villanova. Good luck!
My son was deferred, 1500 SAT, (800 math) 3.71 Unweighted GPA, lots of AP Including AP Chem and EC’s. NHS, Spanish NHS, and two varsity sports… was definitely surprised… was applying for engineering.
S was deferred 1570 SAT, 3.7 GPA, NMSF, 8 AP’s (all 5’s so far), lots of EC’s. A little surprised but grateful that he has a couple other acceptances going into the holidays. Congrats to all who were accepted!
Accepted EA to Liberal Arts
SAT 1400
GPA (weighted) 4.0
was really surprised because I was at their average and was expecting a deferral, I have solid EC’s though
My S was deferred as well. Applied to VSB. 4.25 WGPA, 34 ACT, all AP and Honors Course load. Double majoring with math this semester and received straight As first term. Football all 4 years. President of many clubs. Visited campus twice. Loved it both times! Very highly rated competitive MA school district. Accepted to Fordham and PC both with significant merit money already so has those in his back pocket thankfully going into Christmas! Several from his HS were deferred as well.
There seems to be so many highly qualified applicants being deferred. Maybe admissions is trying to protect their yield. Maybe some students with very high stats who didn’t apply ED gave admissions the impression that they may not attend. Otherwise, they would have applied though ED. Although, the reality is that many students can’t afford to apply ED; they need to weigh their financial offers from other schools. Villanova has been used in the past as a safety for students who apply to Georgetown, Notre Dame, etc… Just a thought…
Many do get in during the RD round so hang in there! Good luck all!
Wow, looking at these stats of some of the deferrals I am wondering if there is a little yield protection going on here…maybe they think your kids with top stats were going ED somewhere else and didn’t want to give up the spot? I cannot imagine those of you with the really high stats won’t get in the RD round. Maybe they just wanted to make sure you weren’t going to be committed elsewhere. Must have something to do with it.
Like a lot of others on here I was also deferred. I know there is a good chance I can get in RD but was wondering if anyone knows how this will affect my financial aid/scholarship prospects? Is any affordability hopeless at this point?
Does anyone know if it means anything that my portal doesn’t mention Honors at all?
