it certainly helps that you are from a diverse background. However, you’re absolutely correct that your SAT scores are very low. If you want a decent shot at villanova, you need to improve your sat score to at the minimum 1800. , Most of the students who do come here have scores in the 1900-2100 range.

I don’t think people from villanova are any more qualified to chance you than any other person on this board (aside from the admissions council) Anyways, while your ECs are quite interesting, your SAT scores could be improved and quite a bit far from the median from the school. That definitely should be a place you focus your time, or try the ACT. Some people do better on the other. Most schools use UW GPA for the purpose of admissions because schools weight differently. Alternatively, you could use Naviance to compare with past applicants from your school. Good luck.

I misread that your gpa was weighted. The above poster is correct. Because of how vastly different schools weigh grades, they usually look at unweighted gpa more than weighted and the caliber of classes you took. Ie it is better to take tough ap/honors courses than an intro to cooking course.

@shawnspencer I agree that villanova students are not as qualified as actual admissions reps. However, to say that we are just as qualified as random HS students who know nothing about villanova besides its name is false. My peers do occasionally talk about our HS credentials. We know people who came in through the wait list and students who came in through EA as well as their respective scores. So while we may not be as qualified as an admin rep, we do have a better grasp of the caliber of students at this university than the regular CC HS student does.

I think you have a good shot of getting in. Although your SAT scores are low, that isn’t all they look at. I will be a freshman this fall and my SAT score was a 1700.

Your extracurriculars are very good, but admission to Villanova is still very numbers based. Just to be safe you should work for an SAT score of at least 2000, that will most likely guarantee you admission.

i wouldn’t particularly rely on RZN. He seems to be bitter about villanova. Perhaps he was rejected.

If you want to objectively look at schools that are a good fit for you, by the princeton review best 375 or whatever number college book. It lists the sat range/ gpa range and act ranges for schools.

getting ur cr to 1250 is a good goal. I would say above all else, you really should try to display from demonstrated interest. It wouldn’t hurt. Ie visit villanova to be able to write a better essay.

also, what school do you plan on entering? VSB and COE are apparently harder to get into test wise. Liberal arts is varried. ie Biology major is statistically the most selective major at Villanova (Highest sat scores/GPA, but that is probably due to the fact that the scores are inflated by BS/MD students). who make up 10% or so of the incoming bio majors.

Nursing is supposedly the easiest to get into number wise, but still difficult nonetheless.

According to BusinessWeek the average SAT score for VSB students is 1350 and VSB is most likely harder to get into because of its relative level of prestige compared to the other schools. As per CollegeBoard the middle 50% range from 1210-1400. Again, to be safe you should strive for at least 1300 if you are applying to Arts & Science or 1380+ for Business/COE. Raising your SAT score is probably one of the easiest things you can do to drastically improve your shot at admission. All of that other stuff (writing better essays, showing persistent interest, doing more extra curriculars or community service) has no real guarantee.
